Don't hate the guy at all. There are lots worse than him. I've said that the next three years look promising, with next season looking amazing in my opinion. He can stay here for life if he raises the bar and starts doing something similar to what Huggs gave us....or better. He's nowhere close to that at this point, but these next three years might get us in the vicinity. You won't hear no bitching from me about him if he pulls it off. My comments about this team have been mostly positive.

Now...about the cupcakes. That has been a consistent complaint about Cronin since he got here. I'm sure it has been a "BIG" factor in the huge loss in attendance since he's gotten here. I specifically remember the dumbest ticket price increase of all time in Cronin's 2nd or 3rd season, when three quarters of the people in my section specifically commented that they would not pay these ridiculous prices to watch all these $hit teams that Cronin brings in here. And, they absolutely all left. I had been with the same group of people for 30-some years, and not a single one of them is there any more. And, the ones who replaced them come and go. They're not loyal at all. They'll stay two years, and then you won't see them anymore. There are lots of cupcakes to play. You don't have to go down in the 300s and find them all like he does most of the time. There are enough cupcakes in our league these days. He should be stepping the OOC part of the schedule up. He has a little bit lately, but not enough.

I'll be down there with season tickets once the new arena gets built. I will try my best to get 30 people to join with me. Realistically it will be about 10. 2 years!

Cronin is a master at finding obscure cupcakes to throw to the lions. When I heard we were playing Samford and Sons, I thought about just giving my tickets to my kids. But, I did a little research and they have this dude averaging 15 rebounds a game, so the matchup with Washington and Gary on the inside should be interesting. Plus, they were respectable against New Mexico St., so I'm going and hoping for an enjoyable evening.

I think I am as interested in watching this team as I have been in any of Cronin's 10 seasons. I just wish I didn't have to sit through Samford and Sons, and Lipscomb Iced Tea and some of the rest of these obscure cupcakes that Cronin brings in. But, for me, it's a way out of the Thanksgiving preparation, and I'm taking it. I would like to see something near 100 points tonight from our offense.

Compare that to Xavier. As of today, Xavier has 6 games against teams that are currently not in the KenPom top 100 and two of those are DePaul (unavoidable) and one was Missouri in an exempt tournament. So Mack scheduled 3 non-top 100 teams (Buffalo, Lehigh, Eastern Washington).

As of today, Cincinnati has 9 such opponents IN THE NON-CONFERENCE. Only one of those was unscheduled in Penn State. Pathetic.

Agreed. I would like to see Mick experiment with the lineups in the next two games. I'd like to see Scott with Clark as the 4/5 and also see more of Cumberland/Evans as the 3/4. Also as little of KJ as possible.

I'm interested in seeing the KJ/Tobler combination.

Xavier also is smaller than my high school and has extremely ugly girls that go there.

Xavier has been killing it in scheduling. They want to be an elite program and they aren't using all these goofy excuses that our fanbase uses. Cronin used our inclusion in the Big East to soften our OOC scheduling to epic low standards. Xavier went the other way and bolstered their OOC scheduling when they entered the Big East. Now they are a top 10 program that sells out their arena and owns this city, and blue chip recruits are flocking there. Let's compare schedules last year. Xavier played Missouri, Michigan, Northwood, Miami, Oh., NKU, Alabama, Southern Cal., Dayton, Western Ky., Wright St., Auburn, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, and the Big East teams. I'm not even going to bother listing our schedule. Their coach and AD has some balls. This is why Xavier sells out every game and we get 5,200. We make excuses. They want to be elite!

So you've never seen the girls that go there?

Kidding, yeah that's good for Xavier. I still get excited who ever we play, but yup, I see what ya mean.

Honestly, when we owned this city, joking about the Xavier girls was somewhat funny. Not anymore. For me, this whole Xavier topic is extremely upsetting because this has happened on Cronin's watch and I never thought I would live long enough to see Xavier blow past us and leave us in the dust. When I sit and watch teams like Samford, I think about this a lot.

Question. Over the last 6 years we have been making the tournament...if we would have played tougher OOC... would we still make the tournament?

We have been on the bubble a lot. 1 or 2 more losses could have killed our chances each year. I get our SOS would be up but it's a legitimate question.

No, we obviously wouldn't. Cronin is a master at managing around his warts and squeaking into the tournament. Kudos to him for this. But, this is exactly why it's been 10 years with no raising of the bar. He slows the game down to a snail's pace. He's taught defense. He strategically softens the schedule. Anything to get that coveted at-large bid. But, recruits don't want to play the bleeding eyeballs offense, and play 70% cupcakes, and emphasize defense all the time, and play on ESPN3 and these other obscure channels. Anyway....let's obliterate poor Samford tonight....lol.

I agree. The Samford game is not a showcase for a SR starter while players who need the minutes sit for extended minutes.

Lol....Mick will go the other way and give KJ the green light to shoot his way out of his slump! This is the night!

I get it. But seeing teams like Villanova, Wisconsin, and VA with slower tempo really tells me we just need better offensive players. It seems we are getting to that point so who knows.

His style isn't changing so the recruits have to.

Too much truth. Speaking honestly about this program? You must be a Xavier fan.

It's always dangerous to post facts on this website. You do so at considerable risk. I hope a Xavier fan is the worst of what I'm called, but I know better.

I buy into the idea of preparing a great squad with tough OOC opponents. We haven't been great for a long time so not sure how much it helps with just better than average teams. I get more fans would come to the games but will they if we lose the games?

It's a double edged sword. Missing the tournament 3 of the last 6 years because we had better OOC can also damper fan enthusiasm.

I hope we get to a point where scheduling better OOC can really help us in March. Maybe we are making that turn.

This is one of those chicken or egg scenarios. It can go either way unless you have the team that can handle it.

Its actually not a joke at all. Extremely true.

I'm pumped to watch this game tonight. Lets go Bearcats. Lets cover the spread too.

Agreed. Or double it. I think we can win by 40. But, I'll be more curious how our backups play, rather than winning by a ton. I'll be pissed if KJ gets more than 15 minutes. It does nothing.
