Schedule Announcement Tomorrow

Help Support BearcatTalk:

I spoke to Whit personally at a women's basketball game a day or two after his hiring and he specifically told me he would address the basketball scheduling, and he has followed through on that promise. If Mick was involved, then I appluad him also. This is all that we've asked for as fans. We're paying a lot of money for tickets and watching 9 or 10 games of teams we've never heard of.

Hopefully there are more announcements coming like this. This is exciting news! Bearcat fans must sell out 5/3 for this game.

Michigan will sell out. Wolverines fans travel very well

chris bains tweeted nc state coming in and san diego st coming in also

I am hearing there are more big games in the works but they are not confirmed yet. Not sure if the games I am hearing about are the same as these. I didn't get any specifics.

Plus the return game to New Mexico, Xavier, and possibly the Jimmy V Classic. There could also be any early season tournament. I think Whit is going to make sure there are still plenty of opportunities for quality wins on the schedule.

And this is where he got it:

Whit admitted to desire/need to beef up basketball non-conference schedule....do have NC St and SD St coming next year #Bearcats

Good stuff.

So for bball we have NC State coming in.SDSU coming in.Michigan coming in.Whit is talking to C7 schools as well.

It's a miracle! All in one offseason!

All these years people were telling me that 'It was impossible to schedule quality OOC opponents'. Now in one offseason we get deals with three with the potential for more quality schools.

Further illustrates my point that Babcock is the man and Mike Thomas was using the 'they won't play us' card as an excuse to load up on patsies

I think Whit is much better than Mike Thomas but there is more to it than that. You have to look at where the program is now compared to before. It used to be a no win situation for some of these schools to play UC at UC and there is no way UC is taking an away game without a home return. By going to three straight NCAA Tourneys and making it to the Big East Final last year, this program is now viewed as a major player in college hoops again. Keep winning and it will be easier and easier to get these big time OOC games.

Good points...I didn't really think of it that way.

Bottom line is I'm Glad they are taking a more aggressive schedule approach to the OOC. I think it will help build more excitement for the team overall and hopefully that translates into great attendance in November/december

I think we can all agree on that!

Dan Hoard tweeted a while ago that the Cats were possibly going to be in the Jimmy V classic next year. Is that still being discussed?

Xavier, New Mexico, San Diego State, NC State, Wright State...Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Add an early season tournament in there and we're looking at only 4 or so true cupcakes.

Is Wright State going to be at home or away? Not sure if that series has ended or not.

Home- NC State, San Diego State, Wright State?
Away- New Mexico
Neutral- Xavier, Jimmy V Classic*

*= not confirmed but Mick has stated they are trying to get into this game against Pitt or Cuse.

But there will be cupcakes in league now. I hope the last 4 games are high mid majors or mid high majors from big 6 conferences.

Agreed, but I don't think that will happen. My point was more that its looking like we will have a few Maryland Eastern Shore teams peppered in this year in OOC rather than every week.

Why doesn't Dayton get scheduled anymore? I remember in the early 2000's they were playing every year for a while. They haven't been GREAT in recent years, but they at least go to the NIT almost every season.

I was thinking the same thing. Even if it is home and home, the games would get great attendance and I'm sure we could get a good deal. Unlike X, I have no animosity towards Dayton and would love to play them on a regular basis.
