I dont want to talk about the game, we fought hard and lost to a great team, not good, great. #9 is the lowest Nova has been ranked all season..... I wanna talk about the ABSOLUTE disrespect for Toyloy but especially Vaughn. With about 15 min before the game the team paid tribute to the two seniors and the arena was EMPTY, AND BY EMPTY I MEAN EMMMMMPPTTTYY. There were maybe 1000 people there and that is pathetic. Vaughn will go down as the most overlooked good player in UC history. Its easy to show up when Kenyon Martin is there and everything is great, but real fans show up to honor a guy who made UC basketball watchable for the past four years. Something like this would never happen pretty much any other BE school or even Eggsavier. A HORRIFIC showing by our fans and I felt really bad for our seniors

i agree but to show vaughn no respect was very disappointing

Agreed. Although I can see it from both sides, people dont want to go out to watch a team lose. Mick needs to push hard to build the fan base back to what it was, winning games is the best solution... however offering some different types of incentives or something... Its been poor all year.

Speaking of seniors, how many senior games have you attened while a student at UC? 15? :D

Agree

Not sure recruiting rules, but hope non of them came to tonights game.

Hey come play for UC. We won't show up on your senior night! would be the message.

ticket to this game were 5.42 people could have gotten there if they wanted to... and yes ive been to a few

You really have to feel bad for those players. Imagine how they feel, they busted their tails off for four years, while they may not have been the best teams, they still gave UC fans entertaining games. They come out on senior night and the place is nearly empty, I never thought thats how UC fans wanted to send out DV. This kid gave four hard fought years to this university, and his senior night, against the number 9 team in the country, and the place is nearly empty for when he is acknowledged for what he has done.

You guys act like no one came to the game. There was well over 10,000 and I would like to see the final numbers. One of, if not the biggest crowds of the year. It was energized and rowdy.

Why no one decided to show up 20 minutes before gametime I still dont know and it was awful. People came out but they couldn't get there at the right time.

If you win, they will come. Mo Egger has discussed this at length on his shows. Fans can support a team, but it doesn't mean they have to attend the games. Same goes for the Reds. Build a great product, and people buy it, otherwise they will support from a distance, and spend their hard earned money where they feel it's better spent.

I will disagree with this thought. To me being a fan in a small way is like taking ownership in something. You need to have a home court advantage and the school needs the money to improve the program. People who say I am just as big of a fan at home may be right, but they do way less to support the program. They do virtually nothing to help the program.

I know there are a lot of people that are passionate about UC basketball in this city. I know that many of them -- even those extremely unhappy with the Huggins fiasco -- appreciate what Deonta Vaughn has brought to our team in its darkest hour. Yet nobody was there to applaud him during the pre-game ceremony.

Honestly, I nearly shed a tear watching him walk out on that court. He gave us everything he had for 4 years, and we (collectively) couldn't spend $5 to thank him. We are a shitty fan base, and I'm embarrassed.

Fans come in all shapes and sizes. A guy who leaves his family to attend every home game for the Bengals (while partying all day long with the guys) may be a super-fan, but that's not for me.
Ownership is mental, not necessarily physical. I'm emotionally invested with UC, as I scream and yell (and post) frequently. If UC wants more of my money, then increase demand.

I like what Brian Kelly had to say to his players. "It's not my job to notice you, it is your job to get us to notice".

I think many fans feel the same way.

We are a spoiled fanbase that thinks we should get Top 15 basketball every year regardless of the support we show. Some fans will always come out and show support but this isnt that bad of a year and we have shown we can play. People did show up but they didnt care about senior night.

I still believe UC marketing flubbed this one up too. Most didnt know about the times or that it was a "ring of red"

And that is fine for mediocrity. Schools like Syracuse or Kentucky would never allow this to happen. They demand the best. Not by sitting at home with a empty arena but by packing the house and purchasing tickets thus giving the school the finacial ability to make moves if necessary.

We had some really good local football talent there yesterday and the crowd was great for the game. I am sure this will help their recruitment. It all plays factors.

Frankly, I put more of the burdon on the UC students, many of them are on campus, and they won't attend the games. I mean hell, if you can't make the game while you're ALREADY THERE, don't expect fans who may or may not have attended UC to show up when the product on the court is not so great.

As far as thanking the players....I think we do that from this site just fine.

I just want to be clear that I'm not calling out anyone in particular. There are factions of every fan base that can't make it due to young kids, location, etc. and I don't begrudge them that.

That being said, I don't think anybody can convince me that there weren't 20,000 UC fans that could have made it to the game last night, and that most of them could have shown up 15 minutes early.

As TheGreatOne may be implying (don't want to put words in his mouth), the pathetic show of support all season makes me feel like we don't deserve success. It's hard to determine which should come first; success or fan support. Success clearly incites more attention from the surrounding area, gaining more fans. But fan support in the form of homecourt advantage (which is real IMO) certainly increases success.

Sorry for rambling.
