Senior Day

Eddie Tyree didn't start last year, but I think because we were playing a very good team in Marquette. I remember Huggy always starting guys like John Meeker and Jamaal Lucas (although he contributed)...hopefully Mick does the same. I think if we were where some thought we'd be (top 25 team), Epp would definitely start.

Absolutely Jack. Captdave is completely off base as usual. He uses every situation to undermine Micks credibilty with the fans who post here. Guy has no idea what he is talking about. Alex loves this program and its Coach Robert and CaptDave need to stop projecting there wrong assumptions on the unsuspecting player. I'll be there cheering for everyone of the seniors whether they play 40 minutes a game or don't get off the bench. Just being on the team is a great accomplishment.

Did you even read my posts? Where did I "project" any wrong assumptions? I stated my opinion (that a 4-year walk-on deserves to play more than 2 minutes once or twice) and I also gave my opinion that, from what Epp said in an article, he appreciates his place on the team as much or more than anyone. I know he doesn't expect to play, and I know that he is grateful for the opportunity to wear the Bearcat uniform. I also know that Mick appreciates his hard work. All I was saying is that, if I were a coach in the same situation, I would make an effort to get him in a game a little earlier once or twice during his senior year. I am not the coach, I am not a coach of any kind, and I don't proclaim to know all the answers. I am just a guy sharing some opinions on a message board -- which is its intended use, no?

By the way, USF is coming in here on a 2-game winning streak and they are playing their best basketball of the year. Victor Rudd has been scoring a lot lately. With 3 minutes left in the UConn game right now, USF is 15-34 from 3pt range in the last two games. I fully expect this to be a 61-55 type game that has all of us extremely nervous.

Robert, if I wrongly lumped you in with CaptDave please except my apology. While it would be nice to have Alex get some playing time the minutes that go to him are minutes that can and have been used to develope our players that have a playing future with the team. I'm sure alex understands and accepts the situation. As a walk on Alex understands his role and has done it very well. To say you would give him more PT in blow out situations is not a good idea when you can use those minutes to get young players on the court who need the time to develope. Mick's concern should be improving the TEAM not getting walk ons PT. I'm sure Alex understands this. I guess we'll agree to disagree.

Eddie didnt graduate last year. Only seniors were Dion and Yancy. Eddie did start for his final game as a Bearcat. I was in the student section and remember the students going crazy when we found out he was starting. I expect Mick to start Epp although it not be long.

Does anybody honestly feel like starting Epp is a big drop off from what we've watched over the last month and a half? It might just give us a lift. It will definitely get the crowd pumped and loud early on. In case you haven't noticed, Epp is pretty fundamentally sound in everything but shooting. Sound familiar? He passes well, plays defense, etc. Even Mick has commented a few times that he would be getting lots of time if he could shoot better. I've seen enough of a lot of these guys. It's been painful to watch. Why not go with Epp? It really can't be much worse.

Yea it really can't hurt much. Hope yor next comment has a little more substance.

I stand corrected. Got my years confused.

wow, this thread is all over the place lol.

i think mick will start all seniors, then yank epps after a min or two. i think thats how 99.9% of coaches approach senior night.

No worries. I actually owe you an apology as well for being a bit of a hot-head about that. Now that you put it that way, it does make a lot of sense where you are coming from. I agree that it is important to get young players some playing time, and I considered that before forming my opinion. I personally don't consider garbage time to be all that important to a player's development (as opposed to being on the floor when the game is still in question), and that is probably why we differ in opinion. I mean, garbage time can be important if that is all the playing time a developing player gets... but, ideally you would try to work them into some more important situations. Sorry again for jumping all over you.

This interview is about what Cashmere Wright has meaned to the Cincinnati Bearcats. It's a bit of a tear-jerker towards the end. Favorite quotes:

"Up next I'm going to get my degree. I'm not sure what's next in basketball; just take it as it comes, but I'm going to get my degree. I think that will make my parents really happy."

"I really know Coach Cronin as a man. A lot of people only see him yelling, but I know him as a person. He has been like a father."

How do you want to be remembered?
"As someone that battled and gave it their all; a true bearcat."

These are paraphrased, so watch the video for exact quotes. We get so caught up in winning and losing, but this kid has given everything to Cincinnati basketball and I wish him the absolute best going forward. I know his goal was to "go home" and play in Atlanta for the Final Four. This looks unlikely, but hopefully the boys can put it together, finish stong, and go out with their heads held high.

Thanks for posting that, Scheids. I watched both interviews. Very introspective.

I will miss watching Cash play, especially seeing his talent bloom before the Depaul game. Aside from bball, he seems like a great person with a very good head on his shoulders. I've met him a handful of times out and about throughout Cincy and he was also super friendly and genuine. He has represented the university very well and he is a true bearcat! Can't wait to hear his standing O today which he deserves. The same goes for Parker, two great guys that have busted their tails!

Cash has been by far my favorite Bearcat since Cronin has been here...as someone mentioned i this thread i believe, Cash's commitment was hope after losing Downey...i am very appreciative for Cash's toughness...last year after the brawl was a major turning point in his development as a person as well as a player...he stepped up and took the vocal leadership role and was a catalyst in turning around the year after a severely detrimental event...i really liked hearing that he wanted to be remembered as true bearcat...and he will always be remembered in the record books as the school's all time steals leader...i am sure we all wonder what could have been if he didnt suffer all his injuries, but personally, i will focus on how he helped rebuild the basketball program and represent the school with respect..i will be sure to be down there for the ceremony today...i dont see myself changing my member pic anytime soon...

Go Bearcats!
