The college basketball preview issue of Sports Illustrated arrived in my mailbox today.

SI ranks UC #40. For perspective St. Louis is ranked #24, Murray State #29, Temple #38, Drexel #39.

I got a text about this... Thats crazy high. But like i have always said, its pre season rankings. Its meaningless.

I can see how this COULD happen even if I disagree. We have the same 3 guards we had last year but are losing Gates and Dixon (both 4 year starters). I think we have the answers for Dixon (with Rubles and others) and it remains to be seen if Gates was as good a fit for the new guard heavy system as other options. We did focus a lot on trying to get it in to Gates...this year we probably will do more creating from the perimeter.

Last year Gates was a focal point...I wonder what happens when we relegate the 5 position stictly to dump offs and screens and such on offense rather than a focused effort to get it inside. I am very excited to see what our guards and guys like Rubles/Thomas can create. I think the rank of 40 is way to low...but what remains to be seen is just how valuable Rubles will be over Dixon and how much better if any Mooj fits the system.

I think rank 24 is about right for now until we see how this team operates without Gates and Dixon and with Rubles and Mooj. I am optimistic and think we can be a top 15 team.
