“The only thing I can do for our university is do what we’re doing now: keep my guys focused and continue to show that we have an elite basketball program. It’s a shame that that’s the news instead of our team.”

Thank you Mick Cronin for speaking out and saying how I feel and I am sure a hell of a lot of other fans too! College football has turn into a joke and I don't respect it anymore. At the end of the day, its all about the big wigs pockets getting more fat. Our bball team is on the rise and eff anything else. I don't respect college football anymore because its completely lost its integrity. I am glad we have a coach who speaks out and says things how it is!

Yeah, I look at the conference standings and have a hard time figuring out where some of these teams have gone. It seems unnatural.

West Virginia is the one that really sticks out. They have no natural rivalries with the B12. Stupid move. All about money.

Money can ruin everything.

I take pride in knowing that if realignment was about most combined football and basketball wins the past few years, UC would've been one of the first ones chosen.

Mick is one of the greatest role models a young kid can have. Not only is he one of the greatest coaches ever, he is simply a great great human being. He gets it. He lives life to the fullest and is a humanitarian. We are lucky to have such an amazing individual as a leader at our school

I hate to be the negative one here, but these comments echo the comments of many other basketball coaches, Pitino and Boeheim to name a few. While I whole-heartedly agree with what he is saying it is counter-productive to the interests of the university. The irony of it all is if one day Mick does get fed up and leave he would be enticed to go to low and behold one of these teams that are in the big 5 conferences because low and behold they are the ones with the athletic budgets to support giving money to basketball. Mick needs to understand the reality of the situation and be on board with the best interests of the university. If and when we were to be invited to a big 5 conference the first fallout would be to move ahead with basketball upgrades. The only other way to move ahead with that in the short-term is through private donors that put money toward basketball only. Mick needs to be out in the community and shaking some wealthy hands, because I guarantee Tuberville will.

He's on board with the University. He knows and understands everything you said. I think he just finally decided to be honest with how he feels about the whole thing. It's not like his comments will prevent us from going somewhere (see Pitino).

You are right, his comments will have nothing to do with if we go somewhere or not. He has the right to speak his mind and should be frustrated with the situation. However, his sideways comment to Ono about building the basketball team a new arena shows me he is not on board with the university.

And lets be honest, the fans are making as much a decision in this as the university. The fans have come out in much better support for football than basketball recently. We got more than 10,000 people to travel to go to the Liberty Bowl last year yet can't get more than a few thousand to show up for these basketball games. A decent number of these 6,000 in announced attendance are no-shows. I'd venture to say the university has sold more tickets to the Belk bowl than to the shootout. If you can travel to Charlotte on a Thursday you can travel downtown on a Wednesday.

The current state of college football has aided my decision to redirect my money to basketball...I grew up a fan of basketball traditions and rivalries...college football is destroying college athletics and traditions...personally, I want to give money to a coach who believes in the university and not a man who admittedly has taken the role of a car salesman and has no personal interest in the integrity of the university that so many of us take pride in...as the bearcats win in football next (as they should in the depleted Little East), I will cheer and support but I will not give anymore money to the sport (I mean business)
Go Bearcats!

Cronin is right in everything he said. Its sad that a once great basketball league is being ripped apart because of football. I think he kept his mouth shut until he had to say something, after the catholic schools left. They are leaving because of what football and Big East leaders have done to this league. After we beat Xavier maybe people will quit using the excuse "Im not going to watch them play terrible teams" as an excuse. This team is eleventh in the country but cant fill their arena. Its sad really. Cronin has brought us back from nothing with very little support from a lot of Bearcat fans. Alumni and other Bearcat fans need to realize we have a great coach and Huggs isnt coming back. I've been a Bearcat fan since birth and wasnt big on hiring Cronin at first but he has earned my respect and i admit i was wrong. Hopefully fans start showing up or i wont blame him if he does leave.

It would be nice if we'd get an invite already.
As far as football goes, if you're paying for basketball, you're already part of the problem. Cincinnati and other state universities, enjoy a non-revenue status and yet, have revenue sports. It's corrupt. There should be anti-trust lawsuits filed against every major university in the United States, there won't be though. The fact is, the same corporatism that lead to conference realignment is found in AAU schools and is even present when financial aid comes to you. Federal grants and loans are tax dollars, if you get a student loan from the government, the federal government has no money of it's own.
They're loaning you, your money and charging you interest on it. Some generosity that is. Added to that, consider the cost of books and board and yeah... College is a scam. We run this country like the mob. You have to swim the proper channels or you can't even get a decent job though.
The good old boy club, you're either in it or you're a loser. It sucks.

You pay for basketball tickets, you're already going to hell. Might as well enjoy it and go all out for football too.
