Tie Breaker Scenarios for the Conference Tournament

Help Support BearcatTalk:

Memphis is now locked into the 4/5 game. That means the 4/5, 1/8/9 game is assured the night session of the AAC tournament.

SMU/Memphis and UConn/Louisville will decide the 3 seed. SMU clinches it with a win over Memphis, if they lose they still clinch with a UConn loss (win mini-conference). UConn needs to win and have SMU lose.

Here are the schedules for the top 5 teams:

Connecticut (12-5)- vs. SMU(L), @ South Florida(W), vs. Cincinnati(W), vs. Rutgers(W), @ Louisville.

Louisville (14-3)- vs. Temple(W), @ Memphis(L), @ SMU(W), vs. Connecticut

Memphis (11-6)- @ Houston(L), vs. Louisville(W), @ Cincinnati(L), vs. SMU

SMU (12-5)- @ Connecticut(W), vs. UCF(W), vs. Louisville(L), @ Memphis

Cincinnati (14-3)- @ Connecticut(L), vs. Memphis(W), @ Rutgers

I like that it ends on a Friday when you will likely be the biggest league championship story. Anyone else believe that the Bearcats are going to be jacked Saturday at noon? I think the energy is going to be off the charts. I don't see the Seniors allowing another UConn effort.

The championship is Saturday.

I forgot to include the championship game which is on 6pm on ESPN. The rest of the tournament is on ESPNU or ESPN/2.

if cincy or Louisville win the conference tourney they could get as low as a 2 seed, most likely a 3 though.

UCF puts up over 100 points and beats Houston, this locks them into the 9 seed.

Games on Saturday:
Cincinnati @ Rutgers at Noon on ESPNNEWS (Determines 1 and/or 2 seed)
SMU @ Memphis at Noon on ESPN2 (Determines 3 seed, 4 seed or 5 seed)
Connecticut @ Louisville 2 pm on CBS (Determines 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 seed)
Temple @ USF 2 pm on ESPNNEWS (Determines 8 and 10 seed)

Current standings before Saturday's game below...

1 Louisville (14-3)
2 Cincinnati (14-3)
3 SMU (12-5)
4 Connecticut (12-5)
5 Memphis (11-6)
6 Houston (8-10)**
7 Rutgers (5-12)**
8 South Florida (3-14)
9 Central Florida (4-14)**
10 Temple (3-14)

**= clinched seed

Pretty interesting the way its all gonna shape out come later today. If the Bearcats win their first game in the AAC Tournament they may just have the opportunity of a rematch against a team that they lost to in the regular season. I find a SMU rematch to be very intriguing after the poor outcome none of us enjoyed in Dallas. Of course we all want a Louisville rematch but, lets take it one game at a time.

With Cincinnati and Memphis winning (locked into the 5 seed). There are now just a few scenarios remaining.

If UConn wins:
1. Cincinnati
2. Louisville
3. UConn
4. SMU
5. Memphis

If Louisville wins:
1. Cincinnati or Louisville
2. Cincinnati or Louisville
3. SMU
4. UConn
5. Memphis

If Temple wins:
8. Temple
9. UCF
10. USF

If USF wins:
8. USF
9. UCF
10. Temple

It's going to be scenario 2. Looking ugly for the Huskies...yuck.

I dont care who we play either tournament because after the first game every game will be tough.

As Mick Cronin stated in his post game radio interview: The coin flip will be administered by the referees of the UConn-UofL game in the locker room. Mick stated he will be "face timing" in with Coach Pitino as the UC witness.

I wouldn't be surprised if we win the coin flip. Personally I wouldnt mind the 2 seed.
Since I want the 2 seed I'm sure we will get the 1. Lol

Well, there is a 50% chance we win the flip and a 50% chance we do not. Not sure why you'd be surprised either way.

I think this game confirms my beliefs. UConn hasn't been playing well recently, even though they've been on a nice winning streak and Memphis is great matchup for us.
