It's also easy to just assume teams will want to zone us...But if it's something you haven't played all year, it's not as easy as it sounds. Especially if we're willing to go smaller with Evans as a "4" at times.

Yeah switching defensive schemes isn't as easy as it sounds. And I would love to see us start going small against the zone. We talked a lot about playing small ball early in the year, and it happens occasionally but we haven't seen as much as of it as I'd like, especially when we are struggling on offense. I would think a jenifer, caupain, Cumberland, Evans and Clark/Washington lineup would be pretty difficult to defend in the zone. I especially think jenifer needs to be in more of teams are playing a lot of zone. He is clearly the best player off the dribble, at least in terms of breaking down a defense on a consistent basis. He's quick, not afraid to get in the lane and a great passer.

Great argument.

Top 25 in KenPom.
Top 20 in polls and RPI
23-3
Tied for first in the conference
Sold out for a game against a ho-hum Tulsa team at noon tomorrow
New arena on the way
More talent coming to the roster next year
Top 50 offense, #11 defense in the country
Second longest home winning streak
National magazines writing articles about the strong prospects for UC and recognizing the change towards more offense in recruiting

And you still think we have a coaching problem.

Didn't see that coming.

Thanks for your insight.

One NCAA tournament win in four years. Three straight first game losses in the conference tournament.

So you're in agreement with everything I stated.

This team is pretty good.
The program is moving in a good direction.
Our recruiting has improved - we're getting better players
Fan support is increasing
The program is getting some favorable national recognition
The offense has improved
The defense is still very good

All you have to talk about is in the past.

Feel free to refute any of the claims above or in my previous post. If you can't - then tell me how our coach is a problem.

I'll wait for your reply.

Even if you think Mick isn't the answer at coach, it's not like we're even in a position to go and get someone that is clearly better.

We're a 35 y/o 5 who's put on 10 lbs and stuck in a middle management job and married to a 7 who loves us more than we probably deserve and won't leave us, and has a solid career. Are there hotter, younger, potentially better women out there? Yep. But good luck getting a divorce and finding one that is as committed to us.

That sums it up. Be careful what you wish for.

It amazes me how little some of you guys think of our program. I don't want a new coach at all but the picture some of you paint...Smh.

People seem to forget what happen after Huggins left. This wasn't just a coaching change, it was an implosion of the program. We had some of the best recruits in the country coming the following year, until they pulled out. It was a complete rebuild with very little fan support. Nancy screwed us over and everyone took it out on the program. Then mick finally gets thing rolling, starting to get some good recruits, win some big games and bam the BE folds and we are back to a mid major conference. He's gone through a whole season in which he had to sit out. Things haven't been easy for Mick in anyway but in my eyes I'd say he's percervered through quite a bit. And I am pretty damn happy with our coach and the state of the program.

It's really a joke. On one hand they argue we are a top 20 program with a bright future and a new arena on the way but at the same time try to argue no one will want to come here. Sad.

I don't want a new coach either. I'm more than happy with the job he's done. There's things we all wish were different and could be done better, but all in all I'm satisfied with his work. And relax, it was just a metaphor to make a point that when people talk about dumping Mick it's similar to the middle aged dude who fantasizes about dropping his wife for a super model. It ain't happening.

We're also in denial if we don't think being in this shitty league, with minimal March success for 20+ years, in doesn't hurt our national perception and drop our program's stock substantially.

Here's a list of programs that are imo are better jobs (not teams currently) than UC right now.

Kentucky
UCLA
Arizona
Indiana
Michigan St
Michigan
Ohio St
Duke
UNC
Louisville
Syracuse
Virginia
Texas
Kansas
Villanova
UCONN
----------

Then you have really big tier that I think we're a part of and comparable to.

Zaga, UC, Wichita St, XU, Creighton, ND, Purdue, Wiscy,Florida, Arkansas,
Baylor, WVa, Oregon, GTown, Maryland

I'm sure I left some others out and this can be nit picked apart as I just did it in five minutes off the top of my head, so don't get caught up over someone being left out.

I love the program and the coach but you gotta be honest. It has been to 1 sweet 16 in the last 15 years. That's what the people outside of here see. It's looking like mick has it going in a good direction and should be good for a couple years.

Look at the list of schools that have made 20+ Tournaments in the past quarter-century. That's sustained winning. Obviously we need deeper runs, but the Tournament is a couple games out of 30-something each season.

We looked good in the Tulsa game! Looking back at this thread I don't think we have been trending the wrong way since Xavier...not at home at least. We had one bad game against UCF where we couldn't score the ball but we have reached 80+ in the rest.

The problem is we haven't fixed anything with this Tulsa game...because it wasn't broke at home.

There was no trend developing. It has been here for 2 years...we shoot awful on the road. We have one of the longest home winning streaks in the country. Nothing really happened after Xavier that didn't exist before.

We still have to figure out our road shooting woes. Maybe Cronin needs to talk to a few other coaches to see if he can get some advice...because whatever he has been doing on the road (offensively) the last two years (and probably longer) has been awful.

Defense travels. Our offense stays at home.

ON a side note it was good to see all 5 starters in double figures. We are a 2 pt shot by Troy away from making it back to back games.

Kev is starting to play well again...I hope it's here till the end of his career!

And I hope this trend travels.

WH I think you have to start with the fact most everyone scores less on the road then at home. Certainly not to the same extent across the board but teams play better at home. Coach mentioned this in one of his post games I think. As a away team you just do not generally get the same calls that you do at home. The game is officiated a bit differently for you at home then it is away. Of course travel, shooting background, and crowd can play a small part but the actual dimensions are still the same.

The difference between P5 and the other conferences is access to recruits. Recruits favor the P5 programs. Not saying it is a absolute but it plays a bit part and the gap will get wider. Chad verified this in 2016-17 thread. The budgets will also grow further and further apart. What you pay assistants and travel is a big part. Bottom line is we are at a disadvantage. it is not a even playing field and will only get worse. Not saying its impossible to have a good program but it is much more difficult then it used to be. The University of Cincinnati needs to be in a P5 conference. We are futunate that our basketball Coach has ties to the city and wants this to be his destination. But our football program is a stepping stone program to bigger and better jobs. if Mick didn't want to be here I wonder if our Basketball program wouldn't be the same way. I do not want our school to be a stepping stone to any other school.

Presently, XU is beating us on the recruiting trail. Compare UCs incoming freshmen to Xs. I wonder why X has 4 four star players coming in and UC has none???

To be honest, X has been better the last 10 years. They also are in a better conference and better arena. I think it's starting to turn around but it's not there yet.

p5 definetly helps but I think you can succeed in bball without it. We have seen it with gonzaga, Memphis with cal, Vcu, etc... The first thing you have to do is win every year. If you win a couple tourney games and are top 20 every year, players will come. Maybe not the top 10 guys but you will get some top 50 guys. Success builds more success.
