UC 69 Rutgers 38

Not only did we destroy them when we had the ball but we destroyed them when they tried to run. Negative rushing yards??

Kerry Coombs should not be a position coach IMO. That group has no idea wtf is going on.

I much enjoyed the Bearcat double header yesterday. Football scored more points than basketball, what a shootout!

Winning next Saturday at UCONN will be a MUCH more difficult proposition though. Hopefully the team can find a way, thus making the final game against Pitt meaningful.

I understand Rutgers blows, but I wish we could play like that on offense every week.

Agreed regarding Kerry Coombs as well. Absolutely ridiculous that we give up plays like that week in week out with no adjustments or glimpse of improvement.

Side note - we wound up parking next to the Bearcat Tailgater guys yesterday. That's a hell of a rig they have.

A couple things.

1. Rutgers isn't the best team in the world but they only give up 19 points a game so their defense isn't horrible. 69 points is a great showing offensively.

2. Pead had 213 rushing yards and 5 TDs (4 Rushing). A monster game from him. I expect to see many more of these next year.

3. 69 points is the 5th most in UC history.

4. 69-38 (107 total points) is the most ever in a Big East game.

5. As good as the offense was, the defense was nearly as bad. With the exception of the front 7 shutting down the running game, the defense really struggled. The corners could not keep the receivers in front of them to save their lives.

Dude, I love Coombs and his energy, but I said the same thing yesterday. He's in charge of the secondary and they are the ones getting torched. To be fair though at some point the defensive game plan has to be called into question. Why are we not putting bodies on these receivers and worse the running backs when they go upfield? How many times can you just allow a guy to run 30 yards upfield and no one bother to cover him before realizing your gameplan isn't working? I realize we don't have the man-to-man defenders to match-up with these receivers, but they're worse when they're trying to defend them running behind them playing catch-up. I just don't get it.

And honestly if you're playing UC why would you not try the home run play at least once every possession when you have the ball? Its converted at such a high percentage. You could probably try it on every down and you would easily convert one out of three. Why did Rutgers keep trying to run the ball? The wildcat didn't work once and they went to it numerous times in the second half.

The Wildcat did work once but only once. It was when the "QB" faked the run and threw across the middle. It picked up about 20 yards but only because the safety was a split second late getting there to break it up. The conversion percentage was much lower in the wildcat than when throwing the home run ball, that's for sure.

You can't call it a success when you pass on our defense.

Honestly, I was just thinking of when they were running out of the wildcat, I really didn't notice when they were passing out of it. I do remember a play where they tried a fleaflicker and the guy underthrew the ball by 20 yards. That was well designed.

Yeah, that play was funny. They decided to have a WR come on a reverse and try to throw it 50 yards down field. BRILLIANT!! Not only that, they didn't run it with the same guy who was running the Wildcat who could actually throw a bit.

Pead scored the most TDs in a game since 1912 last night. His quote when asked about it (from Dan Hoard's twitter):

Dan_Hoard Isaiah Pead on scoring most TDs by a Bearcat since 1912: "Geez, I didn’t know UC was even built then"

maybe he's dyslexic and when he sees the ads for "eighteen" "nineteen" he gets it backwards
