The Bearcats will spend Thanksgiving weekend in 2014 playing in the Emerald Coast Classic at Northwest Florida Junior College in Niceville, Fla. They’ll play Middle Tennessee on Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving. If they win that game, they’ll play the next day against the winner of the game between Creighton and Kennedy’s Ole Miss Rebels.

The losers of the Friday games will also meet on Saturday.

The event begins with games at Fifth Third Arena on Nov. 23 vs. Eastern Illinois and Nov. 25 against North Carolina Central.

I would love to play Ole Miss!!

Niceville, FL? I had to look it up and I'm pretty good with geography. It is located near Destin, which is a decent vacation town, but no metropolis. Niceville has a population of 11,000 and the metropolitan area of Destin is only 183,000. Not really sure what will draw fans to this event, especially with no local schools in it. I've always wondered about these "tournaments" we seem to play in every year that we get to host two scrubs for and get one or two decent opponents as well. I'm assuming that we get some sort or compensation for being in these tournaments and that maybe we don't have to pay these scrubs that come here to play? Like, maybe the tournament hosts pay for these schools to come here? Does anyone know how these tournaments work? I'm not opposed to anything that brings in money or brings us quality opponents, but playing a tournament in Niceville, FL seems a little strange to me. Not really strange that we will play some quality opponents, but strange that a town like this would be hosting it and how or where they stand to make money off of it.

I don't know much about these tournaments, but I did see that the college there just built a new 31 million dollar arena a couple years ago. Although it looks nice, it's amazing that you can't get more than this for that kind of money: https://irs3.4sqi.net/img/general/width960/44990586_dybuyLFdr_fD4M0pcHhvTjZe3VD54opSj7gCYxeZY-0.jpg

I think it just sort of puts it into perspective how much money it would cost to renovate Fifth Third, US Bank, or to build a new arena.

Guess you never heard of Ft Walton Beach (possibly the best white sand beach you'll ever set foot upon) or Pensacola.

good old Eglin AFB as well as Hurlbert field. Many people pay lots of money to be in that area in late November. Spent 6months TDY there. Great food and beaches.

I think you guys are missing my point. I'm sure it's a nice area. I'm sure the sand is great. I've been all across the panhandle, although I was a kid. The entire metropolitan area of The Ft. Walton/Destin area is 183,000 people. Yeah there's probably a lot of tourists that are there at any given time, although I doubt they are there to catch random basketball tournaments. It could be a nice destination for fans like us to travel to see them play. Being the day after thanskiving makes it less likely alot of fans would travel for sports although people at least will be off work. The arena holds 2,442 people. I just don't see the draw. And if there were a draw, the arena holds 2,442 people. I guess for the town it's good, because likely they can sell that arena out and bring in some extra tourist dollars and exposure. I'm sure they'll be a TV contract that will compensate the teams for their time and travels. It just struck me as odd when I heard the name Niceville, FL is hosting college basketball tournament.

I think the point is we get a couple quality opponents. Unless you're in Maui, exposure isn't really a big draw. I'm really hoping to make the trip.

is this one of these big time tournaments that i keep hearing uc will now get invites to since we aren't in the big east now?
