Build the man a new place to play...

THIS IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. ACT LIKE IT.

The fact of the matter still exists that conference realignment has nothing to do with basketball. No "basketball" schools are moving to the top five conferences. Basketball makes fractions of what football does. Our arena is still relatively new at 20 years old. And more importantly fans aren't supporting the program to justify throwing money into it just for cosmetic reasons at this point. The basketball team is competing at a very high level at status quo, so the need for a new arena is on the back burner for more pressing needs. The only thing I'll say is make sure Cronin and his staff are well compensated and direct some money into getting better opponents and filling the Shoe. Mick is smart enough to know that the program will be in a better position if the school can get into a better conference. Pitino, Boeheim and others have grumbled about changing conferences. Guess what, their arguments went unheard, but I'll bet they'll appreciate the additional revenue their schools benefit from from getting out of the Big East. Whit needs to sit down with Cronin, speak man to man about the realities of the situation and tell him the university is committed to him and basketball and compensate him how he should be. Fans need to come down to games, plain and simple. Don't sell off a football program and your universities athletic future just to beg a fair-weather city to come watch basketball.

No more, what used to be ain't anymore. Nippert renovation will happen years before any 5/3 Arena renovation. There is nothing all that wrong with 5/3 Arena as is, the building is only 23 years old.

Yeah, agreed. What do you think needs upgrades more-a stadium built in 1901 or an arena built in 1989?

Let me try to put it politely, the Shoe is a dump.

And Nippert is perfect? You're missing the point. 5/3 was just fine with Huggins. Not much has changed. We can eventually renovate it and add more seats, etc. But the main focus should be Nippert, if we want to get in a better conference.

It's a chicken and egg situation for both sports. How do you sell more tickets? Get better facilities and get in a better conference. How do you get better facilities and a better conference? Sell more tickets. And on and on...I think UC will be fine. 5/3 and Nippert suck but I've never had more confidence in the men in charge. This University has plenty to offer. Somethings got to give.
