This is a tough loss for me to swallow. I get it that teams struggle sometimes and your opponent gets hot sometimes and good teams lose to bad teams all the time. But last night's performance wasn't that much different than any other performance this year. The only difference I really saw was we didn't rebound well, which is lack of effort and execution and all the offensive fouls. Those two things led to Providence getting more shots than us. But you know what, we held them to 54 points and they are a high scoring team so you can't really say the other team got hot to beat us. We are "led" by three upperclassmen and teams that play three guys at the guard position with as much experience as our three guards ususally don't have as many let down games as we have had. Yeah we're 18-5 and at the end of the day that's all that matters, but they have eeked their way through every conference game this year and the last 4 or 5 non-conference game. I understand winning is all that matters, but I don't see this team winning this way in March. I just don't. Something has to change. I'm hoping as sad as it would be if true that this team just isn't motivoted to play hard in the regular season and is waiting till postseason to bring the intensity on both sides of the floor. That's the only way I see this team "clicking" come March. And that last play from SK was pathetic. Mick has been getting on these guys about flopping and when it comes down to one crunch play he tries a flop 40 feet from the basket to hopefully what get a one-and-one opportunity? He wasn't shooting, he wasn't even facing the basket. Absolutely inexcusable play. Seeing his face during the timeout hopefully means he learned it was an assinine thing to do and he won't do it anymore. And Parker your FT's are atrocious, put the time in and work on them. 3-9 was bad, but he's been bad all year. This team talks the talk yet goes out night after night and puts forth the same lethargic attitude. Yeah they play tough D, but overall they don't have a swagger or a winning, killer instinct.
With all this said, this is one loss, there's plenty of examples as to how this loss is typical of other teams and won't matter much in the grand scheme of things at the end of the year. Take that ugly feeling out of your stomach (or mine if you need it) as use that as your motivation of why you want/need to play better. The road will not get easier and come March a performance like this means your season is over. This has to be your last pathetic output where you don't seem motivated to be on the floor. If you lose because a good team beat you then I can swallow it.
