Well said.

I am often put in the Mick Cronin "hater" catagory. I don't give a crap who the coach is, I want to see a good basketball team that is well prepared at both ends of the court. It should tell you something that the Cats are winning and there are still unhappy fans. A coach can't vacate one end of the floor. Whether thats the offensive end or defensive end. I know OSU fans have a problem with Matta's offense as well.

Until we can put together a reasonable half court offense, you will always hear the bickering... and for me it has nothing to do with Mick Cronin, it has to do with the players and coaches as a group

If this were madden..... Defense = 99
Offense = 37 Can we atleast bump that offense up somewhat

Great statement, and very true.

Interesting little tidbit of info that I read from Paul Dehner's blog post today.

BE record when we score 61+: 6-0
BE record when we score under 60: 0-4

Seems like all we have to do is score 60 and we get a win but at this point its definitely easier said than done.

Pretty ridiculous isn't it? I am seriously questioning if we break 50 against Pitt. There D is solid and they are playing very well.

Well that sucked. There's no such thing as an easy road game in the Big East.

I liked that Thomas had the moxy towards the end to take the shot to try to tie the game. He did a few other nice things as well. On to Pitt. Let's defend our home court.

I'm assuming you mean there is no such thing as an easy road game in the Big East for UC?

Other teams don't consistently struggle against weak competition like UC does. Marquette won by 23 points last night @ USF. UL won by 20 last night @ Rutgers. There are easy games, but when you have an offense that struggles to score and struggles just to get open looks, every game is going to be a struggle.

Fair enough. Our offense (or lack of) makes for some tighter games (home or road).

^ who cares about the Mick haters. There really aren't that many of them. Now there may be ugly basketball haters and that's a different story. As I mentioned earlier, the casual fan is not going to want to attend or watch games when every single game looks like a bad version of street ball. Cronin has to figure out what he wants to do with the offense and then figure out how the hell he is going to implement it. What is being put out there on offense right now is at a grade school level.

I hate Mick Cronin's offense.

It was obvious that if the team continued to play the same way they were going to lose a game they shouldn't. Well, they did.

On the flip side the defensive style also keeps us in every game. Of currently ranked teams only IU has had closer losses. There have been a lot of good teams that have not only gotten blown out this year, but embarrassed. The tightly contested March games will not be a surprise to this team. It really shouldn't be that hard to consistently score 60 if you make FT's and layups.

bearcatmark, one of the best posters on Bearcat Banter, summed up this team perfectly:

"When Kilpatrick and Cash bring it, UC can beat anyone in the country. When one of them bring it, UC is a top 15-20 caliber team. When they both struggle UC is very, very mediocre."

Cash dribbles so much because nobody moves and gets open.

And because he hates to penetrate. When you penetrate it draws defenses and creates open looks. But he prefers to keep dribbling around pick and rolls. Pick and rolls are useless if you don't force the issue, and he doesn't.

I'm not sure he has the quickness to penetrate. Even when he comes off a ball screen the defender catches up to him and shuts him down. He either brings it back out or picks up his dribble in no mans land. They either need to pull up and shoot some 10-15 ft jump shots or learn to pass it off to a wing cutting toward the hoop...something Rubles seems to do well.

I agree with what youre saying on the bold. I am a huge Cronin supporter but as a fan I am constantly disappointed his teams play to the level of their competition more times than not. It is somewhat of a concern. With how many quality teams we still have to play, beating a providence team with 3 conference wins was a must. UC teams the past three years have yet to get out of the middle tier. There is no reason this team isn't a top tier team this year and they have under achieved already. Look at UL and MU, they didn't struggle to win against teams no worse than Providence. You expect in February, with the talent we have, this shouldn't be a factor but yet it is...again.

It could be worse, Bill Self and Kansas lost to TCU last night, TCU was 0-8 in the Big 12 now they are 1-8, Kansas scored a mere 13 points in the first half. Florida got beat by Arkansas by 18 after being down by 25 in the first half. Every team is going to have bad games, there is not the one team that is heads above the rest this season. It will be a wide open NCAA Tourney this year.

No but I would say their are a crop of teams that are clearly above the rest: Indiana, Michigan, Florida, Duke

Their loss doesn't hurt as much because they will still be a lock for a 2-4 seed in the tourney and they don't have nearly as many tough games left like we do. They can afford to have that loss.

This is a tough loss for me to swallow. I get it that teams struggle sometimes and your opponent gets hot sometimes and good teams lose to bad teams all the time. But last night's performance wasn't that much different than any other performance this year. The only difference I really saw was we didn't rebound well, which is lack of effort and execution and all the offensive fouls. Those two things led to Providence getting more shots than us. But you know what, we held them to 54 points and they are a high scoring team so you can't really say the other team got hot to beat us. We are "led" by three upperclassmen and teams that play three guys at the guard position with as much experience as our three guards ususally don't have as many let down games as we have had. Yeah we're 18-5 and at the end of the day that's all that matters, but they have eeked their way through every conference game this year and the last 4 or 5 non-conference game. I understand winning is all that matters, but I don't see this team winning this way in March. I just don't. Something has to change. I'm hoping as sad as it would be if true that this team just isn't motivoted to play hard in the regular season and is waiting till postseason to bring the intensity on both sides of the floor. That's the only way I see this team "clicking" come March. And that last play from SK was pathetic. Mick has been getting on these guys about flopping and when it comes down to one crunch play he tries a flop 40 feet from the basket to hopefully what get a one-and-one opportunity? He wasn't shooting, he wasn't even facing the basket. Absolutely inexcusable play. Seeing his face during the timeout hopefully means he learned it was an assinine thing to do and he won't do it anymore. And Parker your FT's are atrocious, put the time in and work on them. 3-9 was bad, but he's been bad all year. This team talks the talk yet goes out night after night and puts forth the same lethargic attitude. Yeah they play tough D, but overall they don't have a swagger or a winning, killer instinct.

With all this said, this is one loss, there's plenty of examples as to how this loss is typical of other teams and won't matter much in the grand scheme of things at the end of the year. Take that ugly feeling out of your stomach (or mine if you need it) as use that as your motivation of why you want/need to play better. The road will not get easier and come March a performance like this means your season is over. This has to be your last pathetic output where you don't seem motivated to be on the floor. If you lose because a good team beat you then I can swallow it.

UC doesnt have someone that can create there own shot when the game is on the line. They do have guys like sk and cash that can hit big shots but no one who they can spread the floor and let them go. Shaq had two nice drives that just didnt go down. His handling is suspect but when the other team knows sk is going to get the last shot its pointless. I would of had parker come off a screen and take it hard to the hoop. The whiteboy did hedge hard on sk and they dont call fouls that late. Use sk as a decoy for god sakes. How do u score 10 points in ten minutes then score 20 in 3 minutes. This team needs to move and press alot more.

IU has now lost 3 times to unranked teams. I don't think they have separated from the pack at all.

Butler is top 15 right now. They've definitely separated themselves from the pack. Doesn't meant they won't have bad nights. All teams do. The issue with UC is they don't seem to be improving and they haven't fixed any of their issues that they had earlier in the year.
