Bearcats vs trains, initial impressions:
I like the defense a lot. Barring the drop by McClung on the punt return, this is a 14-0 game and if the recievers didn't have a bad case of stone hands, it might be 21-0. I think they've shown some jitters but I have to say, Munchie is looking very un-Munchie like. Color me impressed by his poise. Annen seems pretty good and RDA IIII is throwing some big time blocks. Crowd looks great, it's weird seeing our offense out of the pistol lol
I haven't seen us play behind center before...
14-7 at half.

Very impressive win. Glad that this one will look good on paper. We need to blow teams out if we are to get into the BCS title game over a 1-loss SEC team. And yes, I know I'm getting ahead of myself. But if we are to have any chance at all, we have to leave no doubt in the minds of the pollsters.

Munchie had better mechanics but a couple of those throws were absolutely awful...I would much rather prefer Kay.

I would prefer Kay also, and I thought maybe his arm was bothering him until they put him in after Munchie and he started throwing. McClung looked like an idiot, I don't think Willie Mays would've caught that punt. On a side note, I know our concessions are bad, but today, they were absolutely brutal. I waited a half hour in line, only to find out they were out of Bottled Water, Diet Pepsi, and ice. Then, they started charging 5 dollars, I repeat, 5 dollars for water out of the sink in a cup. I felt bad for the workers, as people were fighting in line and screaming at them to hurry up. I don't care if they don't add another seat in that place, IMPROVE CONCESSIONS! The field looked very sharp, I like the new turf. The new punter looked good, I like the new JUCO runningbacks. Milano almost missed an extra point, being the shankopotamus he is. The defense was amazing, partially because of themselves and partially because of the Purdue QB throwing like a 5th grader. The offensive line was impressive, lots of nice holes for running and pretty good pass protection. Munchie looked better, but I like Kay the best still. On top of a few wobbly throws, 1) he holds the ball like a loaf of bread when he runs and 2) even his good throws hang up in the air for an eternity. Overall, great way to start off the Tommy Tuberville era.

I agree JJ. I have been saying this for awhile about the concessions not just at nippert but fifth third arena too. The concourses at both venues are dated and embarrassing. With such good food throughout the city and farmers markets UC needs to seriously upgrade the food for the fan experience. Its something that doesn't break the wallet and makes the overall game day experience enjoyable For everyone even if the play on the field/court sucks. Its something That really gets under my skin as an alumni. Id like to see my money help some things we can actually make a change.

The concessions will be addressed with the Nippert Renovations that begin in December...

I agree. The thing is they contract the concessions out to other companies. Last I knew it was Aramark that does UC's although that may have changed. Point is Aramark or a Sportservice or whoever does this at other ballparks as well. So for the food to be so crappy a selection here doesn't make sense as they have better food at other venues. Now typically it is up to these companies to contract out local or known eateries, such as Skyline, Subway, whoever. I know this because I worked with Sportservice for 6 years in my younger days, although it's no big secret how concessions work. Long story short, I agree the food needs an upgrade. As far as concourse or concession space it is what it is until you remodel or rebuild. I know Nippert's remodeling is addressing these issues. But, yeah the food selection needs an upgrade. Even if contracting out known entities isn't an option (which is bogus because they do city barbeque and donatos) they could still give you a better burger than the premade JTM cheeseburger that is just awful.

-Silverberry is a monster.
-Still wish Kay was our QB, but Munchie has improved.
-Stupid play by McClung, but he owned up to it.
-Running back by committee will be strong.
-Illinois beat FCS SIU by 8 today.

Now as far as the game's concerned. WOW!! Great show. Wasn't a perfect performance and there are some things to clean up, but 42-7 doesn't lie. Only real negative was McClung's poor decision. I looked over the sidelines and saw Tuberville calmly, yet firmly giving him an earful on why not to do that. That is the perfect way to handle it. We'll see if this is a one time thing or if he becomes the next DJ Woods. I'm guessing he doesn't do anything this boneheaded again and although it probably cost us a shutout, it didn't cost us the game so all is forgotten in my opinion if he doesn't make the same mistake twice.

Purdue looked awful on offense. Their QB wasn't that good and we beat them at the line or scrimmage. Our team seemed hungrier. I thought it odd with about 50 seconds or so left in the 3rd quarter and Purdue down 21 and faced with a 4th and 8 from their own 39 that they would elect to go for it. They basically were saying the game is over if we don't get it. They didn't and it effectively was, but it's not impossible to score 3 TD's with a whole quarter to play. Punt the ball and keep field position and let your defense try to make a stop. Thought that was a poor choice by Purdue's coach.

Yes, I know, and today reaffirmed to me how bad we really need these upgrades.

Lol so true. I mean, have you seen the TV's in the course of fifth third? They are still from the 90's. There is not one evidence of digital technology anywhere minus the scoreboard. Just saying, year after year it continues to be neglected.

Nippert at least has character, I think if they improved concessions and worked on improving congestion while trying to move around that it would be a much better experience. I love the feeling at the football games that makes you feel like you are really close to the field. I think it is a big home field advantage to have the fans crammed in such a small place. I think Purdue had about 3 delays of game today alone. 5/3 has no character and I think they should focus more it than Nippert. Football can sell recruits on the fact that we have many NFL players, a big-time coach, and a really neat home field advantage. Basketball can't really sell recruits on our facilities. The upgraded practice gym was a good start, but they gotta do more for them, whether it be gutting 5/3 or moving the games downtown.

The Cats impressed me.....

But next weekend Ill be up in Columbus sitting with 105,000 of my closest friends!

You mean the school up North that would rather play Little Sisters instead of us? Buffalo makes Purdue look like a football powerhouse.......

Even old man Lou Holtz said O$U game against Buffalo is one of their hardest games all year. :) classic

Lou Holtz said it like that? I'm pretty sure it sounded more like-The Ohio Shtate game agshaignsht Buffalo ish one of their hardesht gamesh all year. Gotta include the sh whenever Lou talks. I like Lou, but you gotta make fun of him a little........:D:D:D

Hahaha you nailed it. Its ridiculous a school with so much money are such pussies to play anyone tough. But can't say I am surprised. Least they will have one tough team to play next year. :)

Great result. Good way to start the Tommy T. era. The linebackers look as good as advertised.

until it makes sense to schedule tough opponents, Why not have cup cakes? and home games to bring in the $$

I will say the previous years we had Texas, USC, The U, and scheduled Cal at the time they were decent as the OOC games
