PG:
Tu Holloway - All American canidate. Clutch shooter. Strong and quick. Really struggled last year with our defense. If you recall, he was borderline out of control and dirty at some points. Throwing some elbows. Bob Knight was not a fan. He really does a great job drawing fouls, if we are disciplined like last year we can handle that. At X, they will give him some of the borderline calls from last year. Bottom line is Tu Holloway is their best player and very very good. It is going to be critical that Gynn can give solid defensive minutes.
Cashmere Wright - Shot has been much better this year. I feel he has gotten stronger physically. He still hasn't turned that corner though. He is very solid. We need him to be damn good. A lot of pressure for him to take care of the ball and he has failed that test at points this year.
Advantage: Holloway
SG:
Mark Lyons: One of those guys you hate if he isn't on your team. He is small and short but explosive. His shot has gotten better every year. He is an emotional player which can be good and bad in a game like this. Very good FT shooter.
Dion Dixon: Very good athlete. People don't recognize this because he is not explosive but smooth. Senior on the team. I think he has to be the leader. His D is very good. Offense can be but is spotty like all of the UC players. He is about as level headed as we have. It is interesting because our gaurds are definitely more level headed which is not always the case. That could play to our favor in these games.
Advantage: Even
SF:
Dez Wells: I belive he is still the starter. X fans are welcomed to correct me if I am wrong. Dez is a freshman who is extremely athletic. Strong for a freshman. One of those guys who will try to dunk on you're head every time.
SK: Kind of streaky but seems to have found his game. Poor ball handler but above average shooter. Gamer. Good leadership skills.
Advantage: SK
PF:
Andre Walker: 6'7 senior who transfered into X. From my understanding he starts but there is a lot of guys who play this position. Good rebounder and capable of scoring.
Justin Jackson: Wild, effective, crazy. Really needs to get after on the boards. I love his defensive mobility.
Advantage: Even
C:
Frease: Big body. Strong. Not all that great of a basketball talent. He can be effective because of his size. His rebounding has been improved from what I can tell. You have to gaurd him because he is capable of putting the ball in the hoop if you dont give him any attention.
Gates: Huge frame. Usually gets up for this game. He has a soft touch but can fall asleep in games. The nice thing about this game is that he is motivated for it. Everyone at Cintas will remember the way he played last year and will be giving him the business. I think Mick and Yancy will get treatment we havent seen since Bob Huggins.
Advantage: Gates
Bench: It is not even close. This is by far the biggest gap IMO. Xavier is deep and has quality bench players. Last year I thought UC's biggest advantage was the bench. This year I feel even stronger that is XU's biggest advantage. While I think our starters are very competitive with theirs. I might even take our starting 5. This is a team game and the bench players major factors. If our bench can come close to theirs I think we have a chance.
Bench Advantage: Xavier
