Our d-line is bad... real bad.

Our secondary has to play the run so heavy and it leaves us vunerable in the deep game.

This game hurt almost as much as the opening loss of the season. Eww. Just eww. Hopefully they can rebound vs. Syracuse and at least provide a glimmer of hope going into the WVU game.

While he has had some early season issues with emotions, I don't think your argument holds water... the guy he's trying to replace (and it's almost an Aaron Rodgers for Brett Favre type task), Mardy Gilyard, was just as emotional and they even told Mardy before halftime of the Pitt game last year they needed a play... that didn't cause him to 'try too hard' or anything like that... I'm not comparing the two... I'm just stating I don't think a lack of focus is a problem with DJ... do you need to be reminded he leads the Big East in receiving?

My point is he can't control his emotions and when he's not calm or is trying too hard that's when he messes up. Mardy knew how to dial it up a notch. His emotions were an asset, DJ's are a liability. Hopefully he can get to where Mardy was able to get to, but I don't see it. I've heard his emotional issues run deeper than what we see on the field and even some of his teammates are getting tired of it.

I'm not trying to knock DJ here, I show him love every game when he passes in front of our seats, I just think a player struggling with his emotions doesn't need to add pressure to himself by trying harder than he needs to try. I realizing saying things like this are what helps motivate players and maybe that's what he needs to get himself to that next level. I will say I don't think Butch Jones has done a good job of disciplining this team. Case in point is Wolfe getting those two 15-yard penalties late in the USF game. Then he's out there in the next defensive series. At what point do you bench a player for making bone-headed plays? He'd have been in the locker room if it were me. This team is undisciplined. What pissed me off the most about Woods is in that Louisville game on the first play where he gets that TD and is turned around jawing at guys. That is the type of thing I don't like to see out of my team and we haven't seen here since the Minter days. That's why we had so many penalties against South Florida. Players aren't being held accountable for their actions and mistakes.

I agree with most of your points actually... though I guess in the grand scheme of things while it may be indicative of larger problems it's not a priority at this point in terms of what needs fixed with this team... and in fairness, Collaros talked a ton of smack to the entire UofL sideline after that first touchdown... so you can't single DJ out on that play lol

I talked about the lack of discipline earlier this year and I had thought it looked like it might be controlled. After that USF game I was clearly wrong. There is no way that Derek Wolfe would have stepped foot on that field after kicking a guy in the head. There is just no excuse for that. I can see being frustrated but that is just taking it one step too far. This is by far one of the least disciplined teams I have seen in quite some time from UC and I was around for the Minter regime too.
All that being said they still have a chance to right the ship. Syracuse did them a huge favor because now UC is back in control of their own destiny. This can be done but the team has to show up. And I really don't want to see the team from earlier this year again in a game. especially a home game. That was just sloppy and inexcusable. As long as they stick together and take this loss personally the Big East can still be theirs. I am just hoping that this is the direction it goes instead of the other possible scenario.
