This team is not very big as there tallest player is 6'10 but doesn't play alot, nor score or rebound when he is in.
Other than him, its mostly our bigs against 6'7 guys. They have 2 6'9 guys but history has shown that they only play them against less opponents.
UC should be fired up to win this game. They got beat by 20 on there home floor 2 hours after hearing Cronin had a medical issue. I expect these guys to be very motivated.
In the first VCU matchup, the thing that killed UC was the 3 point shooting as VCU hit 15 3's that game. You wont win too many games when your opponent hits that many.
Melvin Johnson dropped 4 3's on us last year and is not at all shy to shoot them as against Georgia tech I believe he took 10 and another player took that many as well.
We need to contest every 3 and beat them in the post and absolutely crush them in rebounding. Also protect the ball as they are one of the top teams in the country stealing the ball. Also I really don't like that VCU has now dropped 2 games in a row, they will be fighting for there life.
The Good for UC: They dont have Shaka Smart, they aren't very tall, They get there shots blocked a lot, they lost 2 starters of which hit 4 3's against us last year, If you stop the 3 you stop them as they have one of the lowest 2pt% in the country, Because there small they don't get fouled alot and thus dont shoot many free throws.
The bad for UC: VCU forces a ton of turnovers (9th best in the country) and they do it via steals (2nd best in the country), Over all they have a good D (27th in Kenpom), Even though they are small they offensive rebound pretty well.
But overall it seems that VCU offensive is not very good. They win by the 3 point shot but dont shoot it much better than us. We just need to take care of the ball, stop the 3 and we should win
