Vitale says UC is a team to watch

This is great to see. The national recognition is starting to come back which leads to more nationally televised games which will ultimately lead to higher attendance numbers and more recruits getting a chance to check out the CATS!

This is huge. Some may scoff but the reality is Mick Cronin is well respected for what he has done and where he has brought the program under the circumstances he inherited.

I guess this can only be a good thing... However I truly believe vitale is one of the most overrated basketball guys EVER. Limited knowledge and pure opinion.

great to get more pub, from the king of hype. Never hurt.

As far as dickie v being overrated as an announcer, i couldnt really disagree more. Obv I still prefer the team ESPN had for the BE tourney with bilas, raftery, and i think the play by play guy was mcdonough, but Vitale makes the game watchable and exciting to non basketball fans. My wife doesnt like basketball or know hardly anything about basketball, but his energy and I think genuine passion and love for the sport of college basketball is pretty hard to miss, even for her as a non basketball fan. I know her, my mother, and quite a few other non basketball fans that get drawn into a game thats on in the background much, much easier when hes doing a game. Same thing applies young basketball fans. He exemplifies the electricity that you feel in the building of a regular season cbb game that isnt really there in an NBA game in the middle of Jan when both teams are on back2backs. He does a great job of keeping things simple and exciting for a lot of people, even though im torn on whether hes dumbing things down, or just does not really have a high level in depth understanding of the game, like a Bilas (my personal fav, but realistically hes dry, a little boring, and not all that exciting, even if his content is second to none.)

While eventually I think the more we learn/know about the game we want a higher level of analysis (like a jay bilas), Vitale is awesome as an announcer because of his massive appeal and ability to grab people who dont ccare about the sport into the game.

I absolutely won't disagree with this. There is a reason why Vitale gets the biggest games for ESPN. Its because he attracts the casual fan. They already have the hardcore fan locked up. They don't care about them.

I just don't enjoy games he calls. Which is too bad because I really like Dan Schulman.

I don't care for anything that Duke Vitale has to say. If UC wasn't on this list, fans would be complaining about how much of an idiot he is (which is true). We all know UC has a chance to be a top 20 team this year. No need to hear it from this clown to validate it.

Since we're on the topic of announcers we do/don't enjoy... Sean McDounagh (SP?)... absolutely DO NOT like him... he is the weak link in the Big East Championship announcing crew.

This is totally off topic but I saw Terrell Holloway at Nordstrom Rack today and he was wearing a busted pair of shoes. I won't go into any other personal things I would really like to say but man, I thought X would take care of their "star" player a little better than that. I see bums in Clifton rocking better kicks than what he was sporting. UC > X! That is all.

I don't really care about X, just saw him today and a busted pair of shoes. So I wanted to express my observations today. Nothing more, nothing less. Get a sense of humor.

Couldn't disagree more.

X2. i think he is tremendous- well prepared, doesnt try to steal the show- passes intricate details of the game off to his color men, and a voice i associate with big east basketball in general.

Yep he is on the list of my favorite play by play guys with Schulman, Dan Hoard and Gus Johnson (although I could understand if he annoys you).

I love Mcdoughna, I think he is the perfect guy to work with Rafterty and Bilas and sometimes he literally has me laughing with the jokes he cracks on the those two. I heard him doing the Reds game on ESPN and he was equally good there too. I think he is up there with Shulman and Hoard. I hate Gus Johnson.

If people enjoy him that's fine. Something about him just doesn't work for me. Rather have Gus. Just my opinion.

I love watching Bob Knight do games. He isn't as polished as the proffessional broadcasters, but his knowledge of the game and the way he breaks down plays is great.
