Sean Mcdougna has a great voice for announcing in terms of delivery and while he doesn't dissect the game as much as Bilas or make it as personal as raferty, I always feel it's essential to have a guy like that on an announcing team. Another example would be Dan Hoard. I like Chuck, his insights into the game and the way he makes a personal connection to the listening audience but you need someone with the vocal styling to make the great moments that much more epic in terms of tone and the way words are articulated to describe the moment.
Also makes it funny when the serious guy with the booming voice, who's entirely too well spoken says something goofy. I remember the Georgetown home game at the end of last season and Hoard said with great concern and intrigue "There seems to be some disharmony among the hoyas."
Made me laugh just the way he said it... I know it's unintentional but it was funny.
Bob Knight gives substance with his insights and sometimes his robotic "I better watch myself or the network will be pissed" goes away and his real personality seeps through. You can tell he holds back a lot with criticism but I enjoy it when he lets loose. I still remember the chicken shit defense comment. That was special. He breaks down the game in a way everyone can understand.
I think Vitale means well, but his diaper dandy rhetoric and his over-all tone sometimes wear thin on me.
