In light of the new Youtube video highlighting the newcomers, I thought it would be good to start the discussion of... Which Freshman, do you think, will play the most minutes this season, and why?

Keith Williams G
Trevor Moore G
Mamoudou Diarra F
Eliel Nsoseme F/C

I would guess Williams has the clearest path backing up both Evans and Cumberland and what we have heard about his D. We may or may not play with both PG's in the game so minutes should be available at the 2 and 3. Diarra and Nsoseme have to compete with each other for minutes at big as well as Brooks, Scott and small ball.

Moore could be a sleeper if he can do all the little things right and make a good % of 3's. I know Williams and Moore have two very different games but I do like how solid Moore is when he sets up for a 3. He gets set and his form is really good and his shot is pretty quick from the looks of it. I do not like Williams shot a whole lot from outside but he is more of a slasher anyway. The more I think about it the more I think Williams and Moore could split time depending on situations and who comes out ready for D1 level BB.

Williams is more of a slasher which means he would have to manufacture his points more than Moore would/will. We don't really need the subs to manufacture points though. If they can both play D at a decent level Moore could prove to be more important since we have 5 other scorers in the starting lineup already. Maybe we just need someone to camp out on the 3 point line and nail some bombs and get hot. That is basically what KJ was good for. KJ didn't have a slashing game and found it hard to penetrate. He could knock down a 3 (even if not a high rate) and he could defend. We aren't going to be bringing in Williams to create for himself....we just need D and someone who can drain a kickout 3. Moore could be just what the doctor ordered in some games as long as his defense is good. Cronin was heard in one video I watched saying Moore was a 3 and D guy. A 3 point shooter who can play D. I can imagine a scenario where that helps us more than bringing in a slashing guard for backup minutes. We have Cumberland and Evans for that.

Keith Williams will get the most minutes because he can come in for JC or JE and I don't think there will be any drop-off. M. Diarra could suprize- He is the only one I did not see in high school competition.

How many minutes and ppg do you see for Keith? Certainly you don't see 19+ minutes and 8+ ppg right?

If Evans and Cumberland each play 35 minutes, that would leave 10 minutes for Keith. I think that would be the fewest he would see on average. Realistically probably 10 to 12 minutes a game and 4-6 points is where I see Keith ending up this year.

I can't see Williams getting less than 15 or so minutes as an average. We will have a lot of games where our starters don't need to play anywhere near 35 minutes.

I think between 15-20 min. a game is about right. More blowouts- foul trouble on starters-injuries(we had none last year)- sickness( Cane gets ahold of some cheese) and even possible discipline (we have 4 new players, hope that all get the team concept right away). I think KW will average double figures for sure.

In minutes, right?

Originally I kinda figured Williams would get ALL the backup minutes at the wing. But this rarely happens and only when the other options are horrible. It sounds like Moore can not only shoot but also defend. He's going to get 5-10 minutes I think.

I really hope Trevor Moore can shoot and defend - but having watched at least 10 South Kent School games last year I would be amazed if he contributes much this year. I really hated the way he was used on that team.

Yah I think 10-15 is probably more realistic. There are a lot of mouths to feed this year. If he gets 15-20 then he will be really really good.

I will take your word for it since you watched him in some games. But if he can defend and make 3's that's about all he needs to do really. I would think he's going to get at least 5 mpg though...as most of our guys will. It will be harder for the bigs to find minutes with so many options.

For me, when it comes to Moore, if he has 5-8 games where he comes in and knocks down 2-3 threes because he's on that night, and isn't a defensive liability that'd be a success. Think he'll be the "microwave" type guy who hopefully can heat up fast, give the starters some break minutes while knocking down some shots.

Other than that I'm not expecting much from him this year.

Great video. Shows how tight of a team they are.

So Keith Williams is as good a player as both JC and JE? Man, I sure hope so.

I know it sounds like typical fan infatuation with a new player but many of his games were televised out of NYC. He is 6'5 -has quickness - top 2-3 vertical on the team- played the guard position in high school in the tough NYC catholic league( Brooklyn- Queens) and was the MVP of that league(think Khadeen Carrington/ Rawle Alkins) - can score at all three levels.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with minutes if we are truly going to push the pace this year. We are going to need some breathers. I don't really want to see a "Goon Squad" type of situation but we can really wear some teams down if we want to. Make the other team have to race back on D almost every possession. Our bench is filled with athletic hustle guys.

When we played slow...we could not wear down a short roster team very well last year. We allowed them to get breathers on the court by not pressing and not pushing the ball up the court. This year we can keep 3 starters on the floor at all times if we want to and maintain good scoring while we keep the intensity high.

Maybe 2-3 man "Goon Squads" instead of 5 would work okay. I know "wearing a team down" might be overrated but it can make a difference if we really keep the pace up and the pressure on.

We have 4 wings on this team and I'm not sure any of them are very similar in how they play the game. I am not a big fan of Williams shot form but I don't put too much emphasis on form as long as they go in. I like how he is a slasher and he looks really good coming off picks for pull up J's. I am sure he can get to the foul line as well. If he can lock it down on D he will be a very valuable player this year.

Above all else I just hope you are right about him being the impact guy you say he can be. If we don't lose too many steps when the subs come in we are going to be an elite team!
