The big twelve is looking for an even amount for next year. The current plan is 12. Now ideally they would want byu and ul to make it 12 but byu is lolly gagging around. They would potentially have to play on sundays and give up tier rights.

How does this effect uc? Uc is under consideration as a rivalry/travel partner with uc. The big 12 is impressed with the recent success of our football program. Ul is vouching for us. Problem of course is revenue. Byu getting cold feet brings the bearcats back into the discussion.

Another thing to watch are the acc teams and nd. Nd,fsu,Clemson, g tech, Maryland etc are all snooping around. With the elimination of the aq and bcs as we know it, these teams realize things are gravitating towards eventually being only 4 big power conferences(sec, big 10,big 12, pac12). Look for big 12 to expand in June for 2013 season after they hire new commish to 12 or 14 teams because as you know I am always right. Sorry jason

Always right? I remember you claiming BYU & UL to Big 12, just a matter of dotting the i's and crossing the t's. But it was a done deal. Stop spreading all your BS.

Is that you Greg Swaim?

Why move leagues and be Texas and OU's whipping boys?

No BCS autobids gives us no incentive to leave and have to travel so far.

No thanks.

Heard in 2004, "Why move leagues. We could never compete with Georgetown and Syracuse in basketball" and we will just finish last every year in football.

If Louisville leaves the closest road trip would be to Philly to play Temple in football and Chicago to play Depaul in all other sports.

Memphis is closer to Cincinnati than Philadelphia.

Football is a different beast.

Why not dominate Big East? Good teams still here. Boise, U of L, USF...

I don't recall hearing anything about not being able to compete with Georgetown and Syracuse when we were accepted into the Big East. Don't forget that Huggins was still our coach when the announcement was made. I think most UC fans felt pretty confident at that point in time. That was well before NZ put the hammer down on ol' Huggy Bear.

As I have said all along, Louisville is not going to the Big 12 unless the Big 12 expands to 12. They will not expand to 11 just to take Louisville. They aren't going anywhere except to the Big 12 so there is no rush. The conference cannot have a championship game in football without 12 teams so the idea of splitting revenues by 11 instead of 10 with no additional revenue coming in makes no sense. These schools are not charities.

The odds of UC going to the Big 12 are slim at this point. I am not saying it will never happen but it isn't likely at this time.

ND is not giving up their independence for the Big 12. If they ever give up their independence, it will be for the Big 10 and their eventual expansion to 16 teams. (Yes, expansion of the Big 10 will happen in the next 5-7 years)

As for the ACC teams, Clemson would prefer the SEC. The Big 12 isn't really a good fit for Clemson. Most any school would leave if the price is right but they are not going to make so much more money in the Big 12 that it would be worth it. Florida State is a long shot as well in my opinion. Maryland is kind of stuck in the middle tier for football and basketball in the ACC so they could be looking to get out. The problem there is that they wouldn't be in any better position in the Big 12. They might be slightly better in basketball (though I doubt it) but they would be in worse shape in football. Georgia Tech is interesting. There is no doubt they are looking at all their options. There were rumors they were interested in the Big 10 when they expanded earlier. The problem for Georgia Tech is that they aren't a homerun for a conference. Their basketball program hasn't been relevant for a long, long time and their football program runs a gimicky offense yet still can't compete in a weak ACC.

If BYU gets cold feet or keeps dragging this out, look for the Big 12 to slow down on their expansion ideas. They are not looking to just take anyone and BYU was the homerun for them in this. Louisville was #12, a nice addition that complements the league. UL is not, and never was, considered the homerun or the reason the league needs to expand. IF the Big 12 decides to expand, I fully believe UL will be included. The only exception is if BYU is not #11 and the Big 12 is able to convince an ACC school to jump but only if they take a geographical partner. Those seem like long shots at this point.

Assuming UL is still here, I don't think there is any question.

I actually think there is plenty of reason to be happy here even if they go, but the travel arguement is a losing one IMO. The BE is really no better for travel.

That Iowa State blog was written by a Cincinnati fan in response to an Iowa State blog claiming UC wasn't a good addition...
