WV coach Bob Huggins in trouble?

I hate that argument. He was a professional player that year, the award goes to the best collegiate football player.

Sadly, if you look at it that way...half of the college football players would be eliminated.

LL is right. I wouldnt say coaches are paying players everywhere, but believe me, boosters are getting a little too involved in college sports.

what a silly argument. 1/2 of college players are doing what Reggie Bush did? Poor Reggie Bush, I guess they just decided to make an example out of him.

Yea, very silly of me to think players are getting paid....Some get a little more than others.

Welcome to BIG TIME college sports

yes, SOME, are getting paid. MOST are not. It can get ugly but the vast majority are not getting paid.

All Im saying is Reggie Bush was not the only one getting improper benefits that year. He got more than most, hopefully, but he was also probably the most marketable college athlete to play collegiate sports during his time

That is correct, but a D1 team has what? 80 some players. Im saying the guys that are making a difference on the feild are more often than not, being rewarded by boosters, "friends", or whoever.

I don't want to talk in absolutes and say ALL, MOST, NONE or even SOME are getting paid because I don't know for sure. What I do know is that coaches in other conferences say when the SEC gets involved in recruiting a kid for football, the price is just too much. It's widely known that the SEC pays recruits but the powers that be tend to over look it because the SEC is the money maker for college football.

Its a very simple solution...

Just like steroids in baseball, the bengals in arrests.....

If you want something stopped you put it to them. For example. If you get caught using roids, there is no more baseball in the MLB for you, period. If you get arrested (obvsiously there has to be a line), better luck at your next job because the NFL wont hire.

If they wanted to stop this, they could. But lets be real, why do they want to?? Just like Jason said, the SEC brings in alot of money, alot of viewers. Money talks.

Very true

I think a fine line is drawn between a coach paying a player vs a booster. Should be a zero tolerance rule against coaches getting involved in that manner.

But listen, if the SEC were the only schools doing this, very few top recruits would consider other schools. The fact that schools outside the SEC are consistent top 25 recruiters tells me something.

Side note: Reliable source. Cash handshakes, although rare, in excess up to 100k for guys "playing" in the SEC.

I heard of a Big 12 coach saying that once the SEC gets involved, the price of the player gets too high. When I heard that it not only told me the SEC is paying for players, but that some schools in the Big 12 are too. You would have to believe the big boys in the Big 10 and Pac 12 are also doing that stuff. The only conferences that don't ever get the top players are the Big East and ACC (outside of Miami). Wonder why?

I'd have to agree. Even though I'm a huge Buckeye fan, Im not blinded. I would even venture to say that the ACC and Big East players are still getting improper benefits, BUT it is not to the magnitude that the other schools.
