I was thinking samething. If we could get 5* player for one year do we pass on him for development of younger guys?

Teams like Providence and St. Johns brings in highly-rated players all the time to take the spots of the highly-rated guys they got the year before. How has that worked out for them?

My original point was Mason fits a school that is one player away from being great or a team that has no one at his position. We are a rebuilding team. We brought in Lance to a young team and did he take us to the next level? No. If we think Mason comes in here and makes us a bona fide top ten team then by all means bring him in. In my opinon we are a fringe top 25 team if certain players step up. I don't think that changes with Mason coming in. But I do think bringing in Mason will severely stunt the development of KJ and Mormon, takes time away from Caupain which stunts his development, makes the signing of Cobb unnecessary and possibly ruins any team chemistry we have built. And this is all assuming his 25 points a game translate to our team and style of play and he can put up those same numbers here. There's as much a possibilty of that as there is he's not a team player and a ball hog. I like the prospects of what we have on our roster at 12 right now. I think risking everything for Mason is questionable at best. Bottom line is I trust Mick. If he brings him in I will be on board with it.

Who said anything about turning down a 5* kid? This guy played at Niagara and was a volume shooter. He wants to go to a place that will give him the majority of the shots. Im not sure we want to give that kind of freedom to a guy who is simply looking to make a name for himself. He is a good player but lets not all act like we would be passing on Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

Bulldogs post above mine

DeBerry and Ellis both come in at a postion where we have absolutley zero returning players. Zero. I guess you either missed my point or are trying to be smart. Also jucos are brought in with a different mentality. They usually are brought in at a position where there is no depth and you need more immediate help than what an incoming freshman will bring. Jucos don't come in expecting to start, whereas Mason doesn't come here unless he's guaranteed to get his points and minutes. Mick won't do that even if reality dictates it will happen. We already added a juco in Cobb into the mix at the two spot. To add a guy that will play the majority of the minutes at a position where we already have three or four guys for is a completely different scenario. It could be argued that Cobb was brought in to replace Guyn after he leaves and give way to KJ when he becomes a senior. I honestly don't think Cobb starts next year unless he is just too good not to. If thats the case then great, but he was brought in to add to the mix.

What juco has Mick brought in that hasn't started? Besides Nyarsuk

Any year that you put 5 guys on the floor you can win a title you never go into a season as a rebuilding year. Mason would make us better if that means KJ sits till next year so be it, you don't want to wait your turn then transfer.

Mbodj came in to back-up Gates his first year. I don't think Toyloy started. Most jucos have been brought in because there was no depth at that position and you needed an immediate starter that is more experienced than a high-schooler. Ellis and DeBerry fit this mold this year. Cobb doesn't, although our starter graduated at his position so maybe he will start. As it stands now we have four players that can play the two, so why bring in a guy like Mason to possibly disrupt things? We act as if he's the second coming or something.

I'll flip the script, what juco or transfer has Mick brought in that took someone's starting spot?

Arguing with people on this board hurts my head. It's an hour past my bed time, I'll pick it up tomorrow. That statement is ridiculous though. In reality there are rebuilding years. We are in one. We have seven new faces and are talking about bringing in an eighth. Reality check is if he were that good and more importantly were that good that he makes his team better (isn't that what we're arguing he'd do here?) his team would've won more than 7 games last year at the low level he played at. Yes, we will play to win and the goal will be to win the title. I never argued we should play to rebuild, I was arguing we have talent here now that needs to play and develop.

All the jucos Mick has had have been brought in to start because they have experience but who says that KJ is going to start? IMO Mason would def be brought here to start.

He can't win by himself and we have the other players to help him win the title. Do you think UCONN thought they could win last year?

Its taken them less than 2yrs for brown to make them top 5. Its 5 other schools in Texas alone that eats before them. How does SMU out recruit us?

Kentucky wins every year with new guys. Yes, they get the best of best but they also play the best of best. We get guys ranked right around the teams we play. Playing in this league we should always finish top 3 regardless of chemistry. We have everything to make a deep run this year. Why call it rebuilding and we got knocked out in 1st rd? Everybody thought last year was rebuilding year. How many years Mick gets to rebuild?

This isnt a rebuild. I expect to contend for a conference title.
