Deonte Burton | 6-1 | G | Centennial | 2010
He can do it all. Score with the best of them. Distribute the ball in traffic. Bang underneath the basket and grab the occasional board. And when the situation calls for it, Burton is fully capable of locking down the opponent’s top player on the defensive end of the floor. Indeed, he’s about as well-rounded as they come. That said, we find it a tad bit surprising he’s not being more heavily recruited. Perhaps his size, or lack thereof, is scaring schools away. In the end, some college coach is going to be lucky to land Burton and have him onboard

^^^Thanks for posting. I don't know if this is really Deontes' family member, but it should remind everyone that family members and recruits visit these sites. What you post and your tenor can make a difference.
yes, I am really Deontes aunt. In fact, Deonte is planning to visit Cincinnati within the next couple of weeks

Count me as one fan that hopes he likes it enough to sign. In my opinion he is an instant starter in the backcourt. Him and Lance would be very fun to watch together.

Agreed. I think overall the combination of Burton, Lance, Parker and Wright would be very strong.

I'm very much hoping we can see this young man suit up in a Bearcat uniform. Sounds like he can fill it up from 3. If he keeps that touch and is not a defensive liability playing time won't be an issue at all.

I think we can all agree that 3-point shooting is the biggest hole on this team, and as was mentioned on the first page of this thread, if we had it this year we would all be talking about how good it felt to be in the NCAA tournament again.

Plus we need to replace the loss of our last Deonta with a new Deonte.

So you have this guy that you've only seen video clips being an instant starter next year over Parker or Cash? I may have to disagree with you.

All I can go off are highlight reels I've seen and evaluations people have typed up... from that, there is constant message of a strong shooter who plays defense... no, he may not come in and start right away, but he'd definitely contend for major minutes...

I'm deontes' aunt and i just want to clarify a couple of things deonte is 6'2 first of all for some reason his profile hasn't been updated. And with reference to schools he's being sought after by Kansas State. Boston College,New Mexico, Washington State, Nevada, UCLA and of course Cincinnati. As of now, he's visited Nevada and UCLA, and is planning on visiting Cincinnati, Washington State and Boston College.

Thanks for visiting and please keep us updated.

Deonte seems like a class act and would greatly contribute to what we're trying to accomplish here at UC.

Thanks again for posting. There are a lot of passionate Bearcat fans that would love for him to join the Bearcat family. Hope he enjoys his visit to the Queen city.

You assume I have only seen clips of him. I watched him score 40 in a game at the Trevor Ariza Westchester Tip Off Classic and he was voted the most outstanding player there. Yes I believe this kid would start or at minimum be the first guard off the bench. I love the possibility of him and Justin Jackson coming in next season. They are cut from the same mold. Go, go, go on both ends of the court. If Bishop is released from his scholly look for Parker to play the 2 and 3 positions. An incoming class of Jackson, Ratliffe, and Burton, along with Gaines would make me estactic!

I'm hoping Cash works on his jumper, and watches lots of film in the offseason. I'd like to have Parker coming off the bench. If Cash isn't starting next year, UC is in trouble. MC cannot go through 20 lineup changes like he did this year. These players need to be ready, and a pecking order/rotation has got to be established before BE play.

Player leadership will be huge this offseason swg. They've got to have a leader gather them and push for a common goal.

Man I hope DB commits to the cats, this kid has that attitude that this team has lacked! Change the attitude on this team and you awaken a sleeping GIANT!

You're right, I did assume that. My bad for that. But, I still think it's a reach to see this guy in the starting lineup ahead of two guys that have a year under them and were pretty solid by the end of the year. But...if your right it would say a lot about his talent.

Let me say this. I understand why you say that, but this kid has a dynamic none of the guards on this team has. He relishes competition. I saw Lance play in high school and in my opinion Burton is more competitive. He understands how to score in the flow of the game but has no issue taking over. He relishes taking shots. He has the strength and athletic ability to score in the paint, He can hit fade away jumpers, pull up jumpers, and three point shots. He has great quicks and hops, and plays defense with a purpose. He has an old school Bearcat attitude. And last but not least he can shoot very well from the free throw line.

I know it's probably listed somewhere in this thread, but here is a youtube video of Burton dropping 40 on Westchester.

here's a few fyis about my nephew deonte, since he's been playing ball he's avg 20 pt pg. As a- freshman he made 1st team in the Moore league and was nationally ranked in the top 50. this year he was mvp in atleast 3 of the tournaments he plyed in.

He would have been much more highly recognized this season had he not had to sit his junior season out after transferring schools. But he also credits that for bringing a maturity to his game. Losing a saeson of basketball gave him new perspective but took the recruitniks eyes off him. If there are 40 sg better than him I'd like to see them. I don't think there are 10 better.

I absolutely agree.

It would a great "get" if Mick could entice Deonte to play at UC.

Our goal is to continually improve our team and upgrade talent. Deonte fits both criteria.

Let's hope he enjoys his visit and decides to become a Bearcat. He should come to UC where he is appreciated and not where fans think they are "settling" on him (cough........UCLA............cough).
