here's a few fyis about my nephew deonte, since he's been playing ball he's avg 20 pt pg. As a- freshman he made 1st team in the Moore league and was nationally ranked in the top 50. this year he was mvp in atleast 3 of the tournaments he plyed in.

How important is staying close to home?

It appears that DB will be visiting UC next weekend and then UCLA. If he doesn't commit to the Bearcats on the visit then my guess is that he will likely stay close to home on the West coast. I hope LS and Kila are his hosts and he sees the passion that these two have to make UC a consistant winner. They need to wow him and show him that the BE is where the top players come to play.

Agreed. Killa and Lance should host every recruit.

Not only do these kids have great work ethic and that "NY" mentality, but they're good kids too. They both want to play professionally and take themselves serious, but also know how to have fun.

This team needs an attitude change. I agree completely with Bufford. If the players currently playing don't care about the name on the uniform get rid of them!! Give me a Born Ready Killa with a little Cash that can Park us permanantly in the NCAA Tournament. (Play on names for you NCAA compliance geeks)

Give me Deonta Burton to keep the transition in the right direction going. A kid with old school Bearcat attitude and fire. If you're reading this Mr. Burton, or family, we want you to be a Bearcat. We don't think we'd be settling (like UCLA fans). We know we are getting a top tier talent that can help take us to where we want our program. Come play in the best damn conference, top to bottom, in the whole USA. You and Lance will be dynamic together!! C'mon, don't you feel it?

I feel it! I feel it! Sign me up! I'll commit right now!

Oh wait................my eligibility expired awhile ago..........:(

In all seriousness, Deonte should be a Bearcat.

I'm telling you we need 2-3 more "players with tude" and we're golden. Mick knows he game. We need team players with a attitude that want to win. Deonte wants to win, but will help make his team better. This kid is my number one wish list. We need frontcourt depth more, but I love this kid.

I agree.

I truly think the only problem is the distance.

Distance is a bit of an issue, but in my conversations with Burton he has spoken a lot about wanting to play in the Big East. If UCLA offers that can change things, however they have not put an offer out there and time is running out...

That would be their 3rd guard in this class... do they have space for him there?

That's still up in the air as they are recruiting over him with a few guys with more stars next to their name. They would be settling for Burton. Take that how you wish...

Fine by me... welcome to Cincinnati Deonte. :)

Do you have any qualms with the brief evaluations of his game that have been made on here thus far?

I have not seen the kid play in person, and if you have followed what I do on BCL you know I try to stay away from making serious evaluations on kids I have not taken in with my own eyes. From talking to both Burton and his high school coach I have really liked what I have heard on both ends. This kid is very bright, has a passion for the game and worked his ass off when times were tough as he sat out his JR year. Like most UC fans I grew up liking tough. From what I can tell this kid has that to his core. That works for me...

That seems to be a sentiment echoed by many... it goes along the line of thinking in that, we don't need the best players, we need the right ones. And Deonte sounds like the kind of kid needed in the program.

With him we will get both. People are in love with big guards. Give me good guards. College basketball is all about good guard play.

Butler is in the final four and they're not there because of five star recruits. They have the right mix of talent that plays well together and is a team. From what I hear on Burton he is everything I want on this team. We need more passion and less arrogance. Let's get this kid. It's our time to shine again.

thanks everybody for your support and belief in deonte. look for him in about a week to be in cinncy

He sounds like someone who could fit pretty well into our system. Going to be interesting to see what happens.

high up there. he wants to stay close to home and we the family would also like him to stay close to home. we are trying to evaluate evrything and stay open-minded after all in the long run it's whats going to be best for deonte. he wants to major in forensics so we have to keep that in perspective also

That's good to hear.

It's always a plus to hear recruits mention academics.

It's also great to here that his family supports what is best for him in the long run.

I think UC is definately best for him in the long run. :)
