Agreed 100 %. I dont think our staff was ever in love with this kid and we have cashmere and jaquon at the pg already. Never understood why we really recruited the guy.

I do want a SG though.
He was offered a scholly right? It seems to me that they wanted him and he choose to go elsewhere. Not sure how it could be seen any other way.

Just because they offered a scholarship it doesn't mean they have to keep it on the table. All we know is that he was offered a scholarship. We don't know when that scholarship was pulled or if it was pulled at all. My point is that we cannot speculate on this because we don't know. Mick may not have had another "one that got away" like so many are speculating.

Honestly I am not too happy with any of the options right now. Even if those SG gaurd is on campus I am not excited by any of them.

You dont follow recruiting too closely I am guessing.

Not as closely as I use to. But you really think that he was down to 2 schools and then Mick decided to tell him...take the other scholly because this one is no longer reserved for you? It seems kinds late in the process to pull it, I know it happens, but it would seem a bit strange in this case is all I am saying.

Exactly no one knows, why is it ok for people ato speculate that Mick pulled the offer and not ok to speculate that Mick may have lost the recruit to another school?

Looking back it seem like thegreatone wasn't interested in the kid from the get go though. Personally, from what I've read and seen, I don't think this is a great loss either.

UC did not miss on Watkins. He is not a big east caliber player and it was realized on his visit. That is why he is going to Utah. He is under 6 foot and slow. Watkins is a downgrade with Cashmere and Parker at point. We need a shooting guard who can shoot not a overweight undersized juco point guard

How can Cashmere and Parker be considered good? Or are you saying a downgrade because Watkins is that terrible? Cash and Parker were pretty darn average.

Parker is not athletic enough to play a leading role on a Big East team.

You are correct Parker is not the guy I want starting at point for us. Cash is the guy. Remember he was just a freshman last year coming off of an injury. Cash will be fine. Parker is more of a role player who can play some sf, sg, and spell some minutes at the point. Yes I believe Watkins would be a huge downgrade from both. I agree we need another point guard but you don't want to take anybody just to fill a spot. That is why we are where we are now. Number one priority is a shooter.

I would agree. Watkins is solid, but too small and not fast enough for the BEast. He has a quick first step and from what I saw on video not much hops. Larger guards would be an issue for him in this league. I think he would have added depth and leadership. Unfortunately after watching him play in more than video clips, I think this isn't a bad thing.

It is time to stop going after nobody's and get the players he has to be better, 2010 recruiting has been nothing short of awful (remeber 3 new players in the late period!!). With the 2011 class of to a shaky start, I think the writing is on the wall.

FWIW Davis and Behanan in the early period would give a little hope. But at this point I think Davis is an IU lean, and with Behanan you never know unless its from his mouth (too many people interrfering wth his recruitment)

I would go after one good shooter, and call it quits. Better off saving the bullets for better targets.

Oh my god, is there anyone out there Mick is in on now? I mean, I am not doing any bashing here, but dude, what the hell is going on? Losing out on Burton, Poland and Watkins??? I am none to pleased right now.

Like others have said, just because they don't sign with UC doesn't mean UC lost out on them. I don't think they were ever that high on Watkins and Poland. They very well might have lost out on Burton, but I don't think the other two walked away with offers.

It looks more and more as if they will go to war next year with the currrent roster. That means that we need to see improvement from the returning players, and in any stable program, this should be an expectation, not a hope. The loss of Deonte Vaughn (even though I will always be grateful for all he did for the program in its rebuliding) will be a positive and the returning players will know their defined roles. Cash, Dixon, and Davis have to improve their shooting and consistency and with a summer of work in the gym, and I expect the first two to be able to accomplish this. The suspension of Bishop should light a fire and I truly expect him to be a stalworth on the team next year. Wilks has shown the ability to hit the outside shot and sould be able to help when teams play a zone defense. The front line will be thin but Jackson and Biggie will have to be able to give 8-10 serviceable minutes each per game, and this is my greatest concern. I think Mick should pocket the last scholarship unless a BE capable shooter is available, or something unexpected happens during the offseason and a player of LS's caliber is somehow present. All his energy should be spent on the 2011 and 2012 classes.

They badly need a big man and a shooter, although at this stage it looks like they will have to go with what they've got. I am really nervous about next season because of it.... really worried about where the scoring is going to come from

The more I hear about Jackson the more I think he will be a great fit for this team. He will be able to give them some minutes and some depth and Gaines will atleast give them some fouls and defense next year. I think this team needs a shooter more than anything else. I think they are good enough down low. Guards win Championships in the NCAA. Duke is a perfect example. Good guards and serviceable bigs.

In the past, on our succesful teams, someone from the returning junior or senior class stepped up and assumed some of the scoring brunt lost from the graduating or early departure players. This upcoming year I think Bishop and Gates have to step up and assume leadership and scoring roles. Mick has said that if Bishop would improve his work ethic and put time in the gym, he could play for money after he graduates (Europe or Asia of course, not the Association). Leaders lead by example, and Bishop of course has to earn the trust of the team before he can assume this role, but IMO it is critical to next years success that he do so. It will be interesting to see who the team capitans will be next year.

Cash will almost definitely be a team captain. While he is only a Sophomore, this is his third year in the program. I could see Wilks being a captain too. By all accounts, he works his butt off. Depending on Gates' offseason, I could see him being a captain as well.

Parker is not athletic enough to play a leading role on a Big East team.

aj price, kevin dyson, levance fields, ashton gibbs, brandon triche, scottie reynolds, etc are not great athletes, nor are they any more athletic than parker. i dont think thats too strong of a point about parker.
