Scout lists Marquis as having high interest in Indiana and Louisville (both have offered). His other offers include Cincinnati, pOSU, Purdue, and Wake Forest.

Marquis would love to play at Cincinnati, however, his father doesn't like the negativity of the fan base towards the program. Its my belief that Marquis has us #1 on his list but his father is pulling him away from Mick.

Ouch.

Courier-Journal (2/11/10):

Indianapolis Pike junior point guard Marquis Teague is expected in Rupp Arena on Saturday night for a visit to Kentucky when the Wildcats face Tennessee. On Friday, Teague scored 23 to lead Pike in an 81-61 win over Indianapolis Manual.

I spoke this week with Shawn Teague, father of Pike junior standout Marquis Teague, about his son's recruitment. Not much has changed. Shawn said the family will make some phone calls after the high school season and narrow it down to two or three schools, then make a decision before the beginning of the travel ball season.

Teague is considering a group that includes Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Purdue and Wake Forest. The family had a trip scheduled for a game at Kentucky last weekend, but had to cancel. Shawn Teague said they may try to get back to Lexington for a game before the season ends.

I also asked Shawn Teague about the possibility of his son going the prep school route, a rumor that I've heard circulating in recent weeks.

"We haven't talked about that," he said. "I heard the same thing going around last year. You know how the rumor mill can be."

Marquis Teague played one of his better games (at least in the second half) against Hamilton Southeastern. He scored 21 of his 25 points after halftime as his quickness on both ends of the floor caused Hamilton Southeastern to nearly blow all of a 17-point lead recovering. When Teague really gets it ratcheted up, it's hard to believe there many high school players as explosive. He shot 8-for-10 from the field in the second half, but struggled from the free-throw line, hitting just 5-for-12.

im hearing top 3 as of now stands as cincinnati, kentucky and louisville and it has been like that for a while... kentucky is the favorite although everyone seems to think louisville is.

So are we in 3rd currently?

Also is Indiana not as highly thought of as many believe?

I'll never post again if Teague picks Wake, Purdont, or Ohio State.

It's a 4 horse race, IMO. I think we trail UL and UK. I'm not concerned with IU, especially considering they have a plethora of guards on the way.

I think Teague's father has too much class for Calipari.

Calipari is the butcher at the meat shop. High school players are the choices of meat. It doesn't matter which piece of meat he gets, as long as it will sell.

Calipari is the pimp and his players are the hoes.

I can't think of anymore.

Haha that is funny.

Calipari also can tell him he has 2 PG's that were the #1 pick in the drafts in the last 2 years.

Agrees with thegreatone....as a fan Cal is scum, but as a player with lottery pick dreams, hard not to want to play for him.

Calipari is one of those guys that are very good with words.

I remember when he was giving his midnight madness speech I went into that thinking how much I hated him and I couldnt care less about what he had to say and by the end of it I was thinking that calipari isnt bad, I hope UK does well...

Then of coarse I snapped out of it but the fact remains that he is good with words.

I see us as his #2 choice right now behind UofL but in front of Kentucky. We'll see how things play out but IMO Mick has a very good chance of getting Teague.

February 25, 2010:

Indiana coach Tom Crean and Louisville coach Rick Pitino were in attendance for the Wednesday's Ivy Tech Downtown Showdown at Conseco Fieldhouse. Crean was there for both North Central's 80-51 win over Brownsburg and Pike's 62-58 overtime win over Lawrence North, presumably to see both North Central sophomore D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Pike junior Marquis Teague. Louisville is also among the schools Teague is considering; he also has commitments from Lawrence North juniors Michael Chandler and Ryan Taylor.

Marquis Teague, Pike: The junior standout started slow. He missed his first three shots and had just two points at halftime. But he was very active defensively, helping Pike build a nine-point first-half lead. Teague scored nine points in the second half, scoring all of Pike's points during a 7-2 run to end the third quarter. He made all six of his free throw attempts in overtime and finished with 17 points on 5-for-12 shooting.
