Class of 2011 linebacker Quinton Alston has a dozen scholarship offers. Iowa, Boston College, Duke, Louisville, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Temple, Villanova, East Carolina, Old Dominion and Indiana all have offered the 6-1, 223-pounder. He had 80 tackles, including 12 for loss, and four sacks this past season. He also saw some time at fullback and tight end.
"I take control of the defense," Alston said. "I make sure everybody is where they are supposed to be. I set up plays for the guys around me and overall try to be a leader on the field and act as a big brother during the game, so I can get these younger guys better."
There are three "younger guys" in particular that have a chance to be Division I prospects.
In the 2012 class, Alston's fellow linebacker, Quanzell Lambert could end up being one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the Garden State next year. Lambert is a 6-3, 230-pounder that started on the varsity squad as a sophomore and registered 64 tackles, four for loss, one forced fumble and a pass deflection last season.
"I show dedication on the field and keep my head up," Lambert said. "Whenever a teammate is down, I try to encourage them. They have to stay in the game. It's a competitive sport, but you can't always go out there cocky."
Timber Creek also has two promising prospects in the 2013 class. Defensive end/wide receiver Dajaun Drennon and quarterback Myles Nash both were praised by coach Robert Hinson.
However, Hinson is perhaps the most proud of the fact all five of his top prospects are taking care of business in the classroom.
"They are all 2.5 grade point average or higher," he said.
