Help Support BearcatTalk:

“Butch Jones is the best coach in the nation. He is the most charismatic coach, he has the WOW factor,” the senior-to-be added.
“We are going to win a national championship UC with him there.”

Coyne has been a fixture on the sidelines of the Bearcats’ spring practices. The coaches love him as he constantly dials potential recruits urging them to join him in Clifton. He has become the program’s biggest fan.

Absolutely love this part, want him to play now!

One of the best things recruits do is recruit others. Be nice if he could work the defensive side and get some front seven in here.

I am glad rivals has him ranked within the Top 10 QB's of the 2011 class. He reminds me a lot of Zach.

I love that he is taking the responsibility to recruit players himself.

Keeping the QB position doing well will help with WR recruitment. Nice.

Badin quarterback Patrick Coyne was placed as the 215th best overall prospect in the nation by Rivals' recruiting analyst, earning four stars and a 5.8 overall rating.

The dual-threat quarterback had over 10 offers on the table when he gave a verbal commitment to the University of Cincinnati in March.

"Even when the big offers came Cincinnati was the biggest offer I got," Coyne said. "Ever since I left Cincinnati's campus I knew I was going there. It's a great day to be a Bearcat. It's hands down the best fit for me."

Coyne ascended onto the national scene last spring when college recruiters took notice of his physical skills as he took home honors as the top underclass quarterback at a camp in Indianapolis. This all happened before he ever threw a pass in a varsity game.

His ensuing junior season saw him throw for 1,641 yards nine passing touchdowns while rushing for an additional 491 yards and 11 more scores on the ground. Not a bad varsity debut. Those numbers were good, but not good enough.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound senior-to-be turned in a stellar effort back in May at the EA Sports Elite 11 quarterback camp.

"It was a great event. I was really excited to come there and show everybody what I have," Coyne told Rivals.com following the festivities.

Three players from the Dayton area were also part of the Rivals250, including Centerville defensive tackle Michael Bennett (No. 30), Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller (No. 56), and Spring field linebacker Trey DePriest (No. 93).

Tennessee offered.

Kiffin's gone, the beat goes on. Nice.

(normally you don't offer commits unless they are looking)

Rivals has finally released a scouting report on Coyne and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive... including what we hope is a prophetic conclusion:

SCOUTING REPORT ON PATRICK COYNE
by Barry Every - 06/28/2010

Speed - Blue Chip
Size - Division I Player
Strength - Blue Chip
Agility - Division I Player
Velocity - Blue Chip

On the Hoof: At first glance, Coyne looks like a college middle linebacker. He has solid upper body and a lower body that is proportionate, giving him an extremely sturdy look. His build is similar to B.J. Daniels at USF.
Needs Improvement: Lacks the ideal height to be a true pocket passer and will need to find windows or throw on the run a good percentage of the time. It is common for really strong-armed quarterbacks to force the ball into tight situations, increasing the potential for turnovers which is the case with Coyne. He needs to make the appropriate reads and take what the defense gives him rather than force the issue.
Most Impressive: Coyne has a short, compact throwing motion making it hard for the defense to react quick enough to make plays on the ball. He has tremendous overall body structure and is very mobile which makes him hard to tackle. But the most impressive asset that he has is a rocket for an arm. He has the strength to make any throw required of him.
Conclusion: Hopefully he will get the opportunity to redshirt and work on his decision making. If his performance at the Columbus Elite11 regional camp is any indication of his overall ability, then he should end up a star at the collegiate level.

I think Coyne is probably a little bigger and has a little stronger arm than Zach. He's a guy that has really impressed at the combines. Zach has all the intangibles and is just a gamer. He makes the plays when you need them the most. He's a lot like Ben Mauk. Guys that the recruiting gurus said were just a little too small or lacked the 'ideal' measurables to be ranked highly. But we all know they're the type of guys you wouldn't trade for the world. Coyne seems to have a lot more of the physical traits that the recruiting services like. Give him a redshirt year to continue developing and then let him battle it out wit Kay, Kater, and Munchie.

Very nice. He's been a leader of this class so this will give him an opportunity to be putting the word out down there. Some of the top players in the country attend that event so that would be a great place for him to do some networking.

Join the club. I think ND has missed out on its top targets, and looking around.

Where else to look than good 'ole Cincy??
