who is reporting him to pitt?

No one has reported it but there are a lot of mumbling out there about the Pitt connection with several of his family members. I think they are the front runner at this point but I don't think it is over yet. We'll see what happens.

Apparently after all the hoopla about Poteat committing to Pitt a couple days ago, he's now saying that he's going to take some more time to evaluate. I'd assume that this could only be good news for any of the other schools he's considering besides Pitt.

This is a good thing for UC. When it was announced on the Pitt board he was going to commit earlier this week, they commented it was the result of him being concerned about getting a seat on the bus because they are looking at a small class. Plus, they claimed it was a result of a package deal with another recruit who was to verbal, 4 star DB Terrell Chestnut. Maybe Poteat is getting weary of Pitt with the log-jam at RB. Hopefully he is looking over here and seeing there is plenty of opportunity to be the man for at least three years.

I have decided to take a new approach with recruiting. If there are not quotes or it doesn't say "I have spoken with the recruit" then I am not believing it.

As talented as Poteat is I don't think he is best fit to opperate in the spread. I would love to have him no doubt, but personally he isn't a "must get recruit". There are other RB's out there that may fit the offense better.

While I do think Poteat could operate fine in the spread, I agree he's not a 'must get.' I think landing a top 15 player at his position from out of state would be a milestone for our program and draw a lot of positive press for us. Certainly there are guys out there like Tre Mason or Aaron Harris who I'd be just as excited if not more excited if they committed to us.

^^ Last time I checked, UC had not even offered Aaron Harris. Is there a reason for that?

Based on what I've seen on film, I like Harris. I actually fully support your earlier analysis that I'd be happy with a guy like Harris and a guy like Rawls to develop into the position (and be the change of pace guy).

I thought I had seen where the staff had been in contact with Harris. With JUCO guys it's hard to say. Maybe they are waiting to see if the guy is going to have his grades in order or something. Hopefully they jump on him if everything's in order. His highlight film speaks for itself. We definitely need a HS RB as well. Pead's last year is 2011, Darrin Williams last year is 2012 and any JUCO guy would be done after 2012. It'd be nice to have a RB that could be in the system for a couple years before he's thrust into a starting role.

Jake, I agree with your assessment of Poteat and Harris and Mason. I have heard the same questions about his ability to fit into a spread offense. I think Harris would be a great get for this program with or without Poteat. I wonder if the staff is waiting on Poteat's commitment before formally offering Harris? They may think his commitment may hurt their chances with Poteat. If Poteat waits too much longer, you may see the staff move on Harris (assumng he qualifies and the staff hasn't already formally offered).

you have to think that the staff is holding off on harris until they hear something from their top RB targets. You can usually count on JUCO RB's being available very late in the process. Most people only recruit a couple of positions from JUCO's LB's DL' WR's and the ocasional QB or OL

I think a dream scenario would be Harris and Poteat. Harris looks ready to step in and dominate in our offense. Poteat might need a redshirt year but he has a great deal of potential.

The only thing I worry about with Harris is that if he has another good season whether some of the elite teams will start throwing their hat in the ring. He's currently the top JUCO RB but he only has offers from Hawaii and San Diego State. There are some teams out there like Kansas St. that take 10 or more JUCOs in a single class sometimes and most of the SEC teams will take a few. I'm just hoping the staff is keeping in contact with him and is ready to jump on him when necessary.

This is my concern too but I think they will move on him one way or another by October. I think by then (and maybe earlier) the staff will have a good feel of where they stand with their top tier RB recruits and will make a play on Harris as appropriate.

I am unsure if he is going to come here. I am hearing a lot of pitt.

That seems to be the consensus. When it was announced last week that he wasn't ready to make a decision, I thought that was good news for us. My thinking was that if he was going to take some time and visit schools that we might really have a better shot. The fact that he's only going to wait a week is probably not favorable to us.

It appears that this guy is a Pitt lock! I have read numerous places that he will be announcing his decision to play for the Stache?!?! Ugh...where are their BEast championships the last 2 years?!? Why do these kids not seem to see the opportunity here, we are the team to dethrone in the BEast, you would think these kids would see the writing on the wall?!? Oh, well, I guess it isn't over till the fat lady sings.

We are getting desperate for an elite RB in this class, we may be settling for whatever RB we can get at this point?!? Fingers crossed!

Go Cats!
