Let me clarify my post above. One name mentioned was in regard to a recruit not doing his due diligence. The other is regarding a recruit that could use a year to develop.

Two things could effect it. Needing the kid for numbers and the possibility of needing him to play another role he would physically be able to play.

not passing classes or not doing due diligence? if you say due diligence how do you mean a recruit didnt? i could see how uc didnt do due diligence, but the recruit?

Due diligence as in not applying himself to the things he should take care of. Let me caution so this doesn't grow legs. I haven't heard lately that this is the case.

in a somewhat related note- i know they are in prep schools- but are Guyn and Thomas 4th or 5th year high school students? I am under the impression that Sanders, Davis, and Ellis are 4th year high school students as well.

I won't be surprised if this young man is signed. He has been extended an offer. San Diego State, Washington and Iowa are also interested.

I have to be honest- not too inspired by this guy at the moment. What do we know about him as a player and what he can bring?

Don't know much. Gonna have to trust Mick's eye for talent. The fact that Steve Fischer and Lorenzo Romar like him isn't a bad thing either.

just my opinion here- the big man market is very sparse right now. i dont know about SDSU's personnel, but i do know that Washington is desperate for a big man that can play right away next year. i dont know anything about how good Mbodji is, however i would guess that he could at least contribute some minutes. i doubt he'd come in and push to start, but my guess is that Ellis has absolutely no chance of competing next year for UC and would be redshirting regardless- i.e. the only big we have signed wouldn't even be able to play and we desperately need a big to come in.

so is he gonna be a a great player? probably not, but probably more ready and able to contribute than Ellis is.

I guess my point is I want God's Gift- if they get both then that's fine... but I want Gift!!!

agree i think he is the staff's #1. however, i'd probably prefer Mbodji this year, and take Ellis next year in 2012 with another year of seasoning/strength training. get him to a legit prep school (not NIA when Shaq goes that has a basement of a building as their school) where he can put on weight and develop his game.

COMMITTED today per Zagoria

CHEIKH MBODJ, a 6-10 big man from Grayson County JC, has verbally committed to Cincinnati, a source told SNY.tv.

Zagoria story:

Cheikh Mbodji, a 6-foot-9, 253-pound power forward from Dakar, Senegal by way of Denison (Texas) Grayson County College, has signed with Cincinnati and will have two years of eligibility remaining in the Big East.

Grayson coach Pat Rafferty, a former Louisville assistant under Denny Crum, said they playfully refer to him as “Shaq.”

The Co-Conference Player of the Year, he averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game. Mbodji also considered San Diego State, but chose Cincinnati in part because of the efforts of Bearcats head coach Mick Cronin and assistant Darren Savino.

“He’s kind of a hybrid four,” Rafferty said by phone. “He’s become really solid and versatile. He’s got a nice skill-set. There are some things that he can do with his back to the basket. He’s really good in space. He has good skills, is a good passer. He’s just solid. He’s a nice fit for the guys that they’ve got coming back in temrs of his ability to pass and defend and effect the game with his length.”
Unlike many African players, his offensive game is not raw and Rafferty said “he’s got some qualities about him you might expect from a European-type player.”

“He’s got upside to him,” the coach added. “He can contribute. He’s a nice piece that will complement what they have.”

I trust mick with this commitment. He has recruited players in the past (killa and dixon) who have had very few if any high major offers and those players have succeeded on the court.
I cant wait to learn more about this kid they call Shaq sound like he has good size and can do a variety of things on the court for being as big as he is. I have always liked the comparison to a European player because it comes with the tag of versatile.
Another great thing about this kid is it sounds like his body is big beast ready so hopefully he can come in and improve his skill set and give us 10 solid minutes next year.
Welcome aboard!

How do you pronounce his name? Is it like sheek? Or sheck? Am I way off?

I've been thinking "Shiek" or "Sheek" as well... and the last name: M-bo-G? lol

I know his coach talked about him not being raw offensively and having a semblance of a back to the basket type game but honestly for me that's just icing on the cake. If he can come in here with that 7'4" wing span and be disruptive on the defensive end and own the glass I'll be happy.
