I've been thinking "Shiek" or "Sheek" as well... and the last name: M-bo-G? lol

I know his coach talked about him not being raw offensively and having a semblance of a back to the basket type game but honestly for me that's just icing on the cake. If he can come in here with that 7'4" wing span and be disruptive on the defensive end and own the glass I'll be happy.

im a little concerned about him being able to own the glass. 7rpg at juco isnt very impressive. also, his coach saying he has a european type game often is a term used when a guy isn't a tough/banger/boarding type like that.

Nice article from Andrew Force at Bearcatreport.com:

For someone that's close to the program, calling Jackson primarily a 3 makes me wonder. Even saying Thomas won't be ready to contribute next year caught me a little off guard, but that is more defensible.

Overall its a solid article. I have heard Mbodj's game compared to Ibrahima's. Hopefully he is more athletic and I will take it.

I was a little confused by that comment as well about Jackson. I just chalked it up to a simple error.

A couple of things:

1. I'm not sure there is anything our staff teaches better than rebounding. Thomas had a similar reputation when he got here and he was our best rebounder percentage wise (granted I think Yancy the oppositions first priority on the glass, but that will be the case next year as well).

2. We team rebound really well. Overall I think our guards are strong on the glass, especially guys like Dixon and Parker. This will help mask any rebounding issues to a degree.

I had the same thoughts but ultimately we have to trust Mick and Co. that at this point in the game Mbodj is (one of) the best option(s) available.

I am very interested to see how the front court situation shakes out by the time the season comes around. Obviously if UC lands God's Gift as well things will change but right now there are a lot of minutes available in the frontcourt.

Gates - How much will Cronin want to push him in the system he's trying to create? Will he play 25-30 minutes a game or will Mick try and stretch him (assuming he continues working on his body and conditioning) out to 30-35 minutes?

Jackson - JJ really started to come on late in the year and we have to assume another year of weight lifting and development will help push him into the main rotation. Personally I see anywhere from 15-25 minutes a game for JJ.

Gaines - The ultimate Wild Card. Clearly he won't be ready to play 20+ minutes on a consistent basis but I think Kelvin has the potential to bring it as an explosive game changing defensive player for 5-10 minutes a night.

That leaves Ellis and Mbodj. Mbodj should come in and contribute in some form immediately while most indications are Ellis will need a redshirt year. There should be around 15-20 minutes of PT for Mbodj.

Fire away. Opinions?

fair enough. point number #2 veers off from what i was saying- because i was commenting on psax saying he will be happy if Cheikh owns the glass- but its a good point.

Mick clearly likes athletic 3/4 hybrids...in his ideal system there is probably only going to be "banger" at the 5. The other 4 need to be athletic and quick enough to press, his teams are probably going to resemble Pitino's teams in the future...which haven't been know as great rebounding teams.

Well, This was expected. Thought we'd hear quickly about one of the weekend visitors. I think he will be better than people think. I also will tell you contrary to what others have reported that I think we will still attempt to sign another juco player. Whether that is Jurick on his visit this weekend or GG after his visits.

So the rumors are untrue that Jurick's visit is no longer in the works?
