Macon certainly isn't a 5.

Agreed. Never meant to imply he was. Frankly the way his recruitment is playing out he could be one of those kids that was a borderline 5 star player his soph. year then between lack of development and other issues (grades) ends up signing late his senior year with a mid-major. Not to say Macon will end up at Akron or Kent State but I think you understand my point.

By big men I assume you mean a 4 and a 5? They need a Center for sure... Not sold that they have to have a second big man, but if that's what the staff thinks than I trust their judgement.

Yes, I would assume a 4 and a 5. I think they would take two PF's if they are good enough, e.g. - McGary and Macon (assuming he can qualify).

i think you take whoever you get. college basketball does not require a traditional 4 and a traditional 5. a lot of teams play four wings and a 4. a lot of teams play undersized 4's at center. we just need bigs however they come.

I thought that went without saying? Obviously they aren't going to take a 4 and a 5 just to have them, however, IMO, that is what they'd like to get. But I still disagree, a good team doesn't just want a bunch of face up PF's. Having a center (or PF) that plays on the low block with their back to the basket is important. A good mix is important. You can't just run up and down the court every game, teams are going to slow you down where having someone who can post on the block becomes critical.

You have to have low post scoring imo. Teams need to be balanced. There are exceptions, like UConn this past season with Kemba, but by and large the best teams are balanced.

Obviously Kemba did the fair share of work, but they got 9.6 pts and 8.7 rebounds out of their center. And that is just offense. Oriakhi played a huge role on defense. I wouldn't like to see two Justin Jackson's in there trying to defend other teams centers.

unc and kentucky are 1a and 1b next year. all of their post guys next year will be face up 4's.

Good comparison.

When UC has all 5* players, they can survive without a center too. Until then, they will likely recruit a center.

you said "a good team doesnt just want a bunch of face up PF's"......there are 2

I guarantee you that both those teams would love to have a Demarcus Cousins type player. But they were able to get face up 4's that happen to be the top players in the country. They aren't going to pass taking a elite talent just to get a true center, which I've also mentioned.

Best case scenario I see is that we get ONE out of the trio of Hammons, Macon and McGary... they will take a wing player in this class... it will be interesting to see how the 2012 recruiting year develops for Mick and Co. because they can be more selective this year only having to fill a couple scholarships rather than six.

I read something about 2 players parents calling Mick after the Georgetown game and telling Mick their son was coming to UC, one of them may have been Hammons.

that was in the enquirer after the gtown game

but it is still Ralph being Ralph. they never said they were coming to UC. it was Mick that said something in the first place and Mick said the recruits said UC was at the top of their list. One was Hammonds, the other was Osborne.

Many good options for '12. Enough to where they can pull the trigger early and not lose anything talent wise by not waiting on a particular player.

As previously stated, it was never reported that anyone committed to UC. Mick just said that he was told by two players and their parents that we were at the top of the list after the Georgetown game at home.

Hammons is going to get interest from all over the place. It will be interesting to see if we can stay at the top of his list.
