Verbal to Xavier. XU got in early and developed a nice relationship with him and his family. He has liked XU for a while now but I'm surprised he didn't decide to go to a bigger school, as he had some pretty good offers.

There's over a year to go before signing date. If Xavier holds unto him it's very nice pick up, but a lot can happen in 13 months with early commits. We've all seen that.

X also picks up a verbal from Michael Chandler.

Hate to say it, but Mack is making Mick look pretty bad on the recruiting trail.

Wait a minute. You're serious, right? We are talking about 2012. I don't care who verbals 13 months out. Things change over night in recruiting. What Mack is doing at XU has zero impact on what Mick will do at UC for 2012. Last time I checked, Mick has done a phenominal job with the 2011 class and may land another top 150 guy in Jeremiah Davis. I am not even concerned with 2012 until 2011 is done and signed. If 2011 ia any indication, 2012 will be just as good if not better. We don't even know if these guys were Mick's top targets. Considering the emphasis put on the East Coast, I am guessing neither one of these guys were too high on the wish list.

Edit: Don't misread what I am saying about Smith-Rivera. I am sure Mick would have been more than happy to have him. That said, I think Mick's top targets have to be big guys. With all the guards/wings he brought in for 2011, I doubt UC looked very attractive. That is why I don't think he was a top target for Mick.

Not really, the 2011 classes are pretty comparable at this point. It's just that X is no longer recruiting at a "mid-major" level. They are a top 25 program now, no doubt about it.

And not to veer too much more off topic, but:

Can't say I feel any sympathy for them, considering the injuries to Mike Williams and Cashmere Wright the past few years... let them see what it's like to lose a key cog right before the season's about to start.

I never said it had a impact on UC or what Mick is doing. I also don't think Mick has done a " phenominal" job on this class. Not with how many open scholly he has. What UK and other schools are doing is phenominal. Mick has a solid class but nothing jaw droping. As you said, it's not done and has a chance to be better, but right now it's not phenominal.

Your right things can change over night in recruting. But I don't think it will. I look for Chandler to reclassify to 2012 due to grades and come in with Smith-Rivera in 2012. That's a solid class right there, then who ever they add on to it. The scary part is that it's been said that Rodney Purvis wanted to play with Chandler. If X adds him in 2013 then look out. That would be a very dangerous team.

I guess I would take Mack's recruiting over what Mick has done this last year. But that's just me.

Yeah, I could never feel sorry for X. BR is prob the best shooter the country doesn't know about. Tough break for X.

I don't care that XU landed Chandler. Everything that I've read on him is that he is not only in trouble with his grades, but he is also a major headcase. Purdue, IU, and UK all backed off of him. If Calipari isn't willing to take him, then something is up. Look at the track record of Lawrence North over the past couple years.

1. Justin Martin - he left LN to improve his grades and he STILL isn't eligible yet for XU.
2. Dominique Ferguson - top player that committed to UK early, then signed with FIU and Isiah Thomas - ineligible for first half of season
3. Chandler

Also I have been keeping up with Rodney Purvis' recruitment and I don't ever remember hearing him say he would play with Chandler. Chandler isn't the type of big man that guards dream of playing with, and I don't think he has any connections with him. I know Purvis wants to play with Shabazz Muhammad, who is one of the best players in the nation in 2012, and that will most likely happen at UNC or Duke.

the only reason x is getting chandler and martin is because nobody else wants to take a chance on them just like uc and stephenson but with that being said scout lists purvis and kyle anderson as being interested so obviously mack can recruit

Great gets for X. They have been recruiting really well.

If I were a fan of their school I wouldnt give a shit about anything other than how good their basketball skills are. Taking a couple chances is worth it IMO

UC and Louisville could not take a kid like Chandler. AS discussed on numerous other boards The Big East doesnt accept partial qualifiers and there is little chance Chandler makes it all the way. Same with a couple of their recruits.

If CHandler was a safe recruit I am sure he would be at Louisville. Good move on X. Their league doesn't have the high set of rules that The Big East does...

He de-committed from Louisville.

He de-committed from Louisville.

Only because Louisville told him to. Same thing with Justin Martin. Happens all the time, schools don't force a guy to decommit, they just cut off all communications with the player and then they decommit.

Not sure Xavier expects him to qualify. Chandler's commit puts them 1 over on schollys.

My guess is that Purvis would not come to Xavier at this point. They will have 6'3" Smith-Rivera, who thinks he'll be a PG in college, and 2011's Dee Davis, who is supposed to be a pretty good PG. With their other guys at guard that could be a bottleneck.

Someone reported today on Yappi that Justin Martin has been ruled ineligible for this year. If true The hits keep coming for X.

I dont think it is a big hit because most X fans didnt expect him to qualify.

You know it is funny. I would take our roster over there but where X dominates UC is the culture of the program. They expect to win. The players that is.

I think that is 90 percent on the coaches.

You can say it is the A-10 and we are in the Big East but their coaches and players know they will dominate the A-10 and our coaches and players are always talking about how good the Big East is. That goes a long way. We need to gain confidence again.
