For the first time since Mick Cronin has been head coach at UC, he can go after the best available player and not the best player at a certain position. Nice luxury.

I still think he wants another big. If he strikes out on his main targets or he can get a stud backcourt player then I think he will take one, but IMO he wants to land another big.

Yeah I'd have to think that Mick wants a true BIG to finish the class, but if he doesn't get the right guy, he has plenty of options when it comes to wings.

McGary or Bennet would be wonderful but I don't think it's going to happen.

I personally would like:
1. Hammons
2. Moto
3. Someone like Carlos Morris/Semaj Christon or another wing Mick has up his sleeve.

They've got multiple offers out. From McGary to Austin Waverly. I too believe he'd like to have another big but the numbers dictate he can go in various directions. I'd like to see another big too. However, I think the scholly will go to the best player willing to take it.

The "wish list" for the last scholarship should look like this in order:

1. Mitch McGary (longshot)
2. AJ Hammons (certainly in play)
3. Anthony Bennett (not sure where we stand)
4. Stud Wing/Guard that comes into play late
5. Secondary Big man like JUCO Waverly Austin
6. A lesser wing/guard like Semaj Christian
7. Leave scholarship open for 2013

Good list. I'm not a big Hammons fan at this moment. Kid has so much potential and so little desire to reach it. He needs to step up. His effort can't even be called inconsistent.

Has Hammons even played much, if at all, in AAU events this year? Last article I read which was from a while ago said his effort isn't much of a problem anymore.

Just my opinion LH. Also think he's too slow footed for UC's style but all that could change by being in better shape. Good thing is, if he signs, he wouldn't have to come straight in and make a huge impact.

I wouldn't be upset to get him. Just really was trying to say I wouldn't take him as a #2 on my wish list.

I don't know about his recent play. But in the footage I've seen of him (before he transfered to Oak Hill) he seemed to be on cruise control up and down the floor and dominated mainly because of his superior size. He also appeared a little "bigger" than I thought in that he has some weight to lose. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if his effort as been questioned.

I can understand that. The reason I had him at two was based solely on potential and serious interest.

And I totally get that as well. The Cats are going to need a low post scorer. somebody that can score with their back to the basket after this season. May Mbodji is that guy after a year under his belt. Maybe Gaines emerges as that guy in year three of his college career. Don't see Hammons as that guy in year one. My opinion is that is perhaps why they've offered Waverly. He'll come in more experienced. McGary will have his pick of schools. The visit he took to UConn went very well but will Calhoun be there? He has also stated Maryland is working the hardest for his services and the Maryland assistant recruiting him has ties to his coaches. My hope is that because UC has stuck with Mitch thru so much that when he makes his decision that will play a factor. History with recruiting tells me that rarely plays a factor.

2. Anthony Bennett
School: Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep
The Buzz: Much like McGary, we entered the spring knowing that Bennett -- who had just cracked the top 100 prior to his junior season -- was going to merit a bump in the rankings. Already a five-star, the Canadian import is still on the rise and has been one of the most consistently dominant performers of the summer.

Anthony Bennett (Brampton, Canada/ Findlay Prep)
2012, PF, 6-8, 230 pounds
He is a hungry scorer who is hard to guard, has good footwork and a fluid offensive game. In the paint, he has power and explosiveness to dunk over defenders. In transition, he fills the lane, finds the basket and finishes the play. He also can knock down 3s and works the offensive glass, always looking to score.

Anthony Bennett, PF, CIA Bounce- Forget being a potential impact freshman in 2012, the beastly Canadian is an impact player in college basketball next week. For whatever reason, it doesn't seem like anybody's really gone full bore on his recruitment yet but they should. Physical, skilled and athletic, it's hard not to see some Larry Johnson in his game. The best part is that he brings it consistently and always plays like a beast. You want to take a rebound from Anthony Bennett? It's best you be a grown man about it.

Wherever Anthony Bennett went at last week’s Peach Jam, high-major Division 1 coaches followed.

The 6-foot-8 Canadian from CIA Bounce and Findlay Prep has the makings of a big-time college player, but he likely won’t sign until the spring period in 2012.

“As far as schools and his decision I think he wants to wait until late so he can make sure of coaching situations, other players going in, etc.,” said CIA Bounce coach Mike George. “He doesn’t want to be a kid that commits and later changes his mind.”

George said Pitt, West Virginia, UConn, Florida, Missouri, Marquette, Ohio State, Kentucky and Washington were expressing the most interest in Bennett, the No. 3 power forward in the senior class according to Rivals.

“His upside is tremendous because the better his ball-handling gets, the more unstoppable he becomes,” George said. “He shoots it so well from behind the arc and he has tremendous athletic ability. And you know he’s only scratched the surface of his ability.”
