New ESPN rankings came out today and he is listed as the #69 player in the country and #9 C.....couldn't hurt to grab him and get even more depth at the C/PF position

I think I still prefer Graham just because we have so many big guys coming in, but I would be thrilled with Osama too -- especially if Morman is able to step in to the rotation right away. Since foul trouble isn't usually an issue with guards, we may be able to get away with 4 guards on the roster. Plus, if Clark is as good a ball handler as advertised, we might be able to steal a few minutes with Shaq at the 2 and Clark at the 3.

We all talk highly of DeBerry, Strickland, and Moore... but history will tell you not all 3 of those guys are going to pan out. Good bigs are hard to come by these days, and I would be surprised (and ecstatic) if all 3 of them became major contributors.

First off I don't want to sign this guy. I want a shooter. Secondly, they all don't have to be major contributors. If you have one which is a major contributor and two who are solid you have a good class. If you have 2 that are major contributors and one who is solid you have a very good class. If all three are major contributors you have an outstanding class.

Bear in mind if you have one guy that is sound in every area but averages 8 rebounds a game you have gained an important component. And by major contributor do you mean immediately or at some point?

I believe of the 5 kids already Bearcats (Moore, Strickland, Morman, Deberry and Clark) at least 3 will be contributors immediately and at least one other will provide good bench minutes.

Since we have two scholarships left I'll take both of them. 7"2 Centers with high upside are hard to come by. Obviously I agree we need a shooter. That should be the priority. If we are going to use the last two scholarships on this class I want graham or some other big time shooter that becomes available. That could be a transfer, unknown juco, or some high school player that explodes late. I want to add depth to the front line. That is where Mahmoud would come in. If they cant land either of those two I wouldnt mind finding another Titus Rubles. Ultra athletic bearcat type of player that can do a little bit of everything and defend multiple positions at a high level. Titus has been an invaluable part of this team. If we can find another filler like him I would be happy. Still think one scholly gets pocketed for 2015.

Really happy to finally see some actual game footage of the kid. Did not realize he was that versatile. Would really like to see us land him and use him as a possible redshirt to add some weight. Of the small amount of clips that were posted his game kind of reminded me of Baylor's Isaiah Austin.I would love to see him in a Bearcat uniform

I have always enjoyed taking in the National Prep School Invitational, which takes place in Providence, Rhode Island in the last weekend of January every year. You get the chance to see nearly all of the top prep teams throughout America and a few kids always jump out and showcase some of their hidden talents not seen before under the national microscope. However, this year brought a talent that is so good that it is worth divulging into just how good Anas Osama Mahmoud can be if he reaches his full potential on the hardwood.
Coming over from Egypt in September to West Oaks in Florida, the talent that the recent import has brought to his Sunshine State based squad is absolutely fascinating to watch. Standing a legit 7’1, Mahmoud can do things on the floor that some 6’5 prospect cannot even do. More of a face-up power forward than a center, the Egyptian big moves remarkably fluid for his size and stature on the perimeter. He can step out and shoot the 3, display an unbelievably graceful floater in the lane, and post-up his man and use an effective up-and-under move on the block. Defensively, Mahmoud posted four steals in his first outing, and once his competitors saw him compete, he altered many shots in and out of his area and was super effective in throwing away shots at the bucket due to his light feet and giant length.
Jumping into ESPN’s top-100 rankings for the 2014 class at the 69th overall spot, Mahmoud may actually be under-ranked. No other scouting websites have the West Oaks senior ranked, but he is a legit top-50 guy this year. On top of that, there may be only a handful of seniors who encapsulate more long term potential than the promising forward. Once his motor is ticking and he is engaged, Mahmoud is capable of taking over a game on both sides of the floor, something that not many others can do in all of high school basketball.
With a desperate need for bigs this late in the years for colleges, Mahmoud rattled off his list of offers from Kansas, Florida, Miami, NC State, Auburn, Kentucky, UCF, Cincinnati, Louisville, Marquette, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota. He has already taken an official visit to Louisville, which took place in the beginning of January, and unofficially visited Kentucky, Auburn, and Cincinnati a few months back. The West Oaks 7-footer does plan on making official visits to Georgia Tech, and then to Minnesota, which will be taking place from February 16-20.
With a solid intellect both on and off the hardwood, and planning to major in engineering , the Egyptian big man is wide open at the moment and wants to attend a college program that is successful, is in a warm climate, and a place that offers a family-type atmosphere. Look for Anas Osama Mahmoud to work through the process, take his visits, and decide on a program that, if he can reach his full potential, make his way into the NBA one day due to his rare combination of size and ball skills, along with his heady capabilities both on and off the basketball on both sides of the floor.

Thanks for the inside info Jack! Good stuff. You would think if he is going to be majoring in engineering UC should be a top candidate. Top 10 programs in bball and engineering. :) after seeing that video and hearing your insight on him I want him at uc. Sounds like a long shot tho with so many schools involved.

Mahmoud will decide march 15th on a school IMO it's between Louisville, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Florida.
Also will visit Florida next week.
