During the first part of the evaluation period, Grayson Allen built a buzz with some big scoring efforts. Wednesday night, the class of 2014 shooting guard still managed to look good despite turning over the ball at a high rate. A pure catch and shoot wing, the 6-foot-4 Allen also has some athleticism and the ballhandling issues could be chalked up to having a weird night. Regardless, he looks like a future high major and possible four-star prospect. Allen reported that he has offers from Georgia, USF, North Florida, Wichita State, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech and Georgia Southern.

Grayson Allen broke out last week at Big Shots in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and has seen his recruitment change in a big way. “Before that I probably had five, six, seven colleges interested in . . . Got about 20 phone calls [since then].” Allen noted that before the Big Shots event he only had offers from South Florida, North Florida and Georgia Southern. Now he said he holds offers from nine to 10 schools. Some of his new offers are from Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, Wichita State, College of Charleston and Georgia.

Grayson Allen, a junior shooting guard out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Providence School, made some serious noise over the weekend, averaging 29 points per game in two wins in the 3A State Championship at the Lakeland Center.

Allen, a 6-foot-5, 185-pound guard ranked No. 36 in ESPN’s most recent rankings for the class of 2014, has fielded scholarship offers from Florida, Florida State, N.C. State, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Miami and many others.

“In all honesty, I really haven’t thought about making a college decision yet,” Allen said. “After the season, I am going to take some time and really narrow it down. A couple factors are playing style of the team and my relationship with the coaches.”

Allen, one of the most explosive players in all of Florida, has a game that stretches way beyond his ability to slash and create opportunities for himself and his teammates.

In a 62-56 championship game win over Coral Springs Christian, he connected on four 3-pointers. He averaged 14.5 points in the third quarters of the semis and finals.

“I was just taking whatever the defense gave me.” Allen said after the championship win. “Coach always tells me never to think about the shots that I’ve missed versus the shots that I take, and if I have a good shot, I’m going to take it.”

Providence coach Jim Martin had nothing but praise for his junior guard.

“Grayson is a big-time player and in the biggest game of our season, he came up huge,” he said. “We wanted to put the ball in his hands, and he delivered.”
