D'Angelo Russell continued what has been a terrific spring/summer run for him at LeBron. As he did at the Elite 100 in June, the rising junior spent some time running the point in addition to playing his natural shooting guard position. He feels that it's making his game more diverse and will help him in the long run. The five-star prospect now has offers from Louisville, N.C. State, Ohio State, Indiana, Xavier and Missouri to go along with recent interest from North Carolina, Wake Forest, Maryland and Cincinnati.
PG/SG D'angelo Russell, 6-foot-3, Montverde (Fla.) Academy 2014: Russell was sensational in leading his Louisville Magic team to a 30-point win over the Compton Magic, and he did it by being productive on both ends of the floor. Defense is the calling card of the Magic, and Russell defines that by outworking his opponents and using his length and athleticism to create turnovers. Offensively, he is multi-talented as a scorer around the rim, a passer, and as a mid-range shooter off the dribble. Russell also created several second-chance buckets for his team, and led the Magic in scoring with more than 20 points in the win. Playing in front of staff from Ohio State, Xavier, Tennessee, Louisville, and West Virginia, he proved that he is worthy of his five-star ranking.
When asked about his recruitment Russell made a point to mention there are no current favorites and fired off a longer list than at anytime NBE has previously interviewed him. Russell specifically mentioned Ohio State, Missouri, Louisville, Indiana, Xavier, North Carolina State, Memphis, North Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Central Florida, Tennessee and Nebraska as schools involved in his recruitment at the current time.
"Scout.com ranks him as the top shooting guard in the 2014 class. Indiana, Cincinnati, Ohio State and Xavier appear to be the top schools involved that have offered a scholarship. A lot of folks seem to be under the impression that Russell is waiting on an offer from Kentucky."
