'15 GA SG Malik Beasley - Offer

I know it still hasn't been updated. If he is #31 and in top 50, JL would still have been more heralded and he did not start and was not guaranteed PT. The same things were said about Clark as well and he peaked around #100.

Typically easier for guards to adjust to college ball. Everything is so packed in, the big guys like Lawrence get completely lost in the shuffle. Beasley is a super stud prospect. He will be able to score and make an impact in every which way. Im not sure hed start but hed get every chance to get big minutes (as did Lawrence).

Not so sure if I agree with that, I think they are all affected the same amount. Carmelo had no problem adjusting, neither did Jabari Parker, Julius Randle. Aaron Gordon, or Embiid. The Harrisons were the #1 SG and PG and neither adjusted enough to go pro. Out of top 10 rivals guards Ennis is only one that adjusted enough to go pro after one year.

Good big guys are always more valuable in the draft and harder to come by. I just think the college style of play overall is more tailored to guard play. I guess i dont know the #s for sure on this but I'd be willing to bet a lot that players 6'5" and under averaged more ppg than players 6'6" and taller in college bball by a lot. It is mostly transition dunk/lay ups, free throws, 3s, and put backs. Not much mid range or true post. That's why when Randle type guys have that, they are immediate lottery picks. 15 ppg guards are a dime a dozen. With a short 3 pt line and 35 second clock, most of college bball half court offense is guards dribbling and scanning the perimeter, then ultimately settling for a 3 or a last 10 sec drive and break down of the D to try to draw a foul. Those guards are the guys with the ball the whole time and the most space to pull up or get moving toward the basket with the most momemtum. Beasley is much better suited to have immediate success at this level than Lawrence was imo.

?????
Jermaine Lawrence was higher rated and he did not start, he wasn't promised PT.

I also don't think that Mick promises PT. Elijah Stewart was noted as having a chance to play for PT if he came here. You can draw your own conclusion on why he would rather go to USC.

Players of his caliber??? Beasley is a 3* recruit and rated #137 by rivals. Not close to elite or upper tier. Quadri and Clark are both higher rated. Will they start? Were they guaranteed PT?
Lawrence has left the building.

If Stevenson was giving green light from day 1 I believe he would've came back also.

Stephenson was one and done no matter what. He had his mind made up. Based on the fact he is starting on a team in the Eastern Conference Finals, hard to fault his decision.

College in general was bad for Lance, he was built of the NBA and is a perfect example of why the one and done rule must go. Either let them go straight out of high school or if they decide to go to college, make them stay two years. Is it a perfect solution, no, but it is far better than the broken system that is currently in place.

Kids going HS to NBA ruined the NBA for a while. I like the 2 year college rule, but it would be the result of the NBA age limit. So the NBA wouldnt be the other option. I wish the NBDL would accept straightout of HS players that need minimum 1 full year experience there.

The only way a freshman starts from day one is if:
A) They play a position we have zero depth at, AND
B) They are a McDonalds All-American.

Even then, it's still unlikely.

This post makes absolutely no sense. He WAS given the green light from day one (played 22, 28, 32 minutes in his first three games), and also had zero intention of ever coming back.

Maybe, but it was great for UC. It helped establish the NYC pipeline and along with what SK did in his career, it opened the eyes of players in that area. Beasley, while not as highly rated as Lance, could possibly open doors to a fertile recruiting area for UC. It will be interesting to see where he lands.

Yeah, that is true, Lance and SK definitely are the NYC connections that built the pipeline for the Mick Cronin era so far. I definitely want us to land Beasley, and I hope we get Jenifer. Jenifer may have lost some of his appeal to the big time programs, but I like his intangibles and it seems like he has a good work ethic. I believe there was an article in the thread on him that said he has a 4.0 GPA and takes multiple AP classes, so that is someone I would definitely want on our team. Who knows, maybe he will grow another inch or two and with that work ethic, become a great find for us.

he was given minutes but lets not fool ourselves and not believe it wasn't Vaughn team until late in season when we were playing catch up.

Lance needed to play with a senior laden team. If he was on last years squad (with Rubles, Jackson and Kilpatrick) then he would have had a much bigger impact. He is way to immature to play on the type of team he did in his only year here at UC. There were multiple reports of Lance getting into it with Larry Davis (player) and I believe Bishop.

Cincinnati stuns No. 10 UConn as Stephenson drains free throws in final second

Associated Press
CINCINNATI -- With 10,409 fans holding their breath and the game on the line, Lance Stephenson calmly dribbled the ball, lined up his free throw and made it. Then, he made another.

No freshman nerves there.
What A Difference

Connecticut's numbers in its losses are different from the wins, particularly its turnovers a game and 3-point shooting.

2009-10 season
In 9 Wins In 3 Losses
PPG 78.2 63.0
Opp. PPG 63.0 67.6
FG pct. 48.1 39.6
3-pt pct. 39.5 21.7
RPG diff Plus-6.5 Minus-1.0
TO/game 12.7 16.7
Stephenson was fouled with less than a second to play and made both free throws Wednesday night, rallying Cincinnati to a breakthrough 71-69 victory over No. 10 Connecticut in a wild Big East opener for both teams that was settled by the Bearcats' most highly regarded recruit in years.
"All I was thinking was let me go to the free-throw line because I knew I was going to knock them down," said Stephenson, who finished 7-of-7 from the line.
Cincinnati (9-3) had lost all five previous games against UConn (9-3) and watched this one nearly slip away, too. The Bearcats led by as many as 12 points in the second half, but the Huskies made a late run and tied it on Kemba Walker's 3-pointer with 9.4 seconds to go. This was the game Stephenson took over.
