You completely missed the point...regardless of how BCJ does you depend on that relationship and have a necessity to protect it. Hence where the bias comes in.

Of course it's the staffs job, whose else would it be?

Go look and see how many top 75 players you can find in the entire conference. Do you think it's because A) coaches in the league want less talented players or B) high end guys aren't interested in playing in the AAC? That has nothing to do with any bias you think I might have. It's fact. Go count. I'll wait...

That is what the whole conversation was about. Would a kid like this come here. Would he come to a conference like this. How would we ever get kids like this? I think everyone is in Agreement it is harder to get these kids in smaller conferences.

I agree completely that this conference presents major recruiting limitations for coaches. Ollie has finally figured out he needs to recruit 4 year players to keep his job (may be too late).

I think this conference has a bright future in Bball. I think we desperately need Uconn and Memphis to be relevant again. It has to be hard to recruit players that want to play against/for Duke and UNC and talk about playing SMU and Temple. However, I think you can sell players on playing against Uconn, Memphis, and WSU once they are all stable again.

It also may be a bit of a issue that with 4 year kids it is tough for them to get on the floor. The one and done schools always seem to have immediate playing time to offer. I can personally tell you that when my son was being recruited we talked long and hard about when he would get his chance and what the depth chart was.

Just to argue the other side, Is our recruiting that different from the big east days? I remember cash, yancy and lance but other than that it doesn’t seem too much different.

You took what was being discuss and created a different argument but that is not surprising. People were discuss Gaffney and how we start to get 5 Star and one and done players. No one said we don’t have good players or we are not a good team. You always can’t wait to tell people we are good right now. We get it. We are trying to have a different discussion.

I was talking to the Protected1 and Waite. I haven't read this whole thread. I really don't care to. But I was reading about what big time players want and why we don't get them. We do get them. That's all.

I see what your saying Jake but there are players who we can't touch because of our conference affiliation. That is the point I was making. It is a very big obstacle. I think that is were we may disagree.

We recruited well in smaller conferences before. I really think there is a bit of a difference between small and the invention of P-5 conferences. Our program is being hurt by its value placed on it by pressure from networks. Who were behind the creation of P-5 conferences.

I'm sure the staff would like that as well. Just not a easy thing to accomplish in today's game.

Just another excuse. I get tired of people acting like we are recruiting players to come play at Withrow's high gym under a Jv coach. We have a crazy beautiful campus, a athletic village that is second to none and we have resources. Part of UC's problem is we aren't cutting edge anymore. My favorite slogan tha we had was "Intimidate, Dominate, Celebrate." We had cutting edge uniforms, a "swag" tha was untouched, a true national brand, with always exciting players who would get drafted. That's our problem. We lack that now. Yeah conference matters. The climate matters. But true leaders change with the times or anticipate a change and makes things happen. Yes we have good players but not great players. I want a GREAT player. We had some five star players come here and some high fours and didn't use them right or use them at all. At the very least we should be a destination spot for the top local players regardless of its ghe GCL or public school. The local top guys didn't even consider us seriously when it was time to make a decision. That should be concerning. Some of them actually considered Xavier for Christ sakes!!! That makes my blood boil.

I am with you. I am one of the few that thinks you can still get these guys being in a non P5 conference. Kids want to have a chance to go pro, play, play in big games, and have a chance to win. I think you can do all that at Cincinnati but it is harder.

It is an obstacle...but we've navigated around it very well.

again like your passion but it unfortunately is not a realistic outlook in today's market.

There really are only 2 one and done schools, so I don't get why there's an obsession with them. This is one of those things that fans do that J Hub loves. We've been winning with 4 year players and transfers and are in the Top 10, but the convo is about how we go about doing it the opposite way.

And whoever was giving me crap for not being able to wait to point out how good we are? Uhh ya think? I'm a fan. The team I love is good. Go kick rocks. You guys are like the baseball fans who still obsess over prospects while the team is in the World Series. "Yeah but we're a smaller market team so it's not fair, the Yankees can spend a bunch, blah blah blah".

Oh hey look, we're on track for another 30 win season. Weird. It's almost like things have changed and you can't just lazily copy and paste your arguments about this from 3 years ago. Remember all that talk about the shift in recruiting philosophy? Well we are seeing the benefits of it as we speak. And y'all still gripe non-stop. Give it a rest. Pff, I can't wait to point out how good we are...lol...said to me like it's a negative thing. Smh.

Did anyone catch that Bill Self interview the other day? He basically went on and on about how the recruiting stuff us overrated. His 2012 Championship game team had 0 McD AAs. His roster now is made up of 5 transfers, a 4* FR, a SR who was committed to App St, a 3* underclassman on the bench, and Azubuike who was highly rated. But this was him pointing this stuff out. At a blue blood like Kansas.

So what's the huge deal? Would it be nice to get a bunch of amazing recruits according to the rankings? Yeah. But do we need it desperately? Not from where I'm sitting. Our coaches target players with winning traits. They always will. Trying for the one and dones can be disastrous if you don't land them regularly. So disastrous actually that NC St, Wash, and LSU all fired their coaches. Despite out-recruiting us year in and year out and getting 5* talent. It's a dangerous game. And basically 2 schools can make it work. But even then you don't have much control. Look at Kentucky's jumble of a roster this year. Then you get guys want to play out of college position to get ready for the NBA. Obviously I'd be happy to be one of those schools, but those type of players don't just put you on easy street no matter what.

At the end of the day, we have a loaded roster. Anyone want to dispute that? Probably not. So what's the point in going into all of this? If we have good players and a good team, I don't care how we come upon these players.

I can't argue with you there. I'm a happy fan.

I asked you this before and you may not have seen it but seeing how you live outside the city how is our perception nationally?

I watched one of our games a couple weeks ago with a buddy bc he bet on UC. He one of the ones that has given me crap for years about them and would say they're unwatchable. But he's an actual College Bball fan so he has noticed where we sit in all the rankings and gave it another shot. He was captivated by our defense. Making comments like "Ok so you just can't move against Cincy. You just can't do anything". And he was laughing that we can have players' the same height and weight as the other team, yet our players are SO much better. I forget which game that was but it was before the Temple game bc he watched that on his own start to finish and gave me a big EVANS!!!!!!!!!! text after his shot. I'm not sure any of my KU buddies have ever really taken the time to learn any of our players. So that's a good sign. We also do a player draft each year for the tournament and one of my other buddies in Denver was talking about learning the UC roster this year so he'd know which player to draft. That hasn't really been the case in this thing ever before. I drafted SK in 2014 but that's it.

So the overall response is good. Turns out people take notice when you have a single digits number by your name.

It was me. To me it seems no one can have a discussion with out u saying how good the team is, like we don’t understand that. Simply having a separate discussion that is interesting to some people. You can have discussions about things and it doesn’t mean you don’t think team is good or are a bad fan.

I wouldn't call Our roster loaded. It's good but not loaded. And nobody said we weren't good. We are but we have good rosters before. Last yeAr and the year before. The reason we complain about recruiting is because we haven't on anything. Zilch zero, nada. One co-championship with Louisville when the ACC first started but nothing else. No conference tourney championships, no conference championships and 1 freakin sweet sixteen. 1 in 10 years!! Some of us are asking for a game changer, something to get us over the hump to true greatness. I swear if I see another 28 game winning season with no banner to show for it I'm gonna lose it. As for national perception, here in Atlanta not a blip. I still wear my UC shooting shirts and bobbit and Levette jerseys and people swear my jerseys are still righteous. But ask what happens to you guys! Who's the coach?

No matter how good your team is, talking about prospects and recruiting is fun for some. Talking about what kind of seed we will get if we ran the table is fun. Talking about line ups and what we could do differently is what fans do. None of it matters but we it’s ok for people to talk about

We have big time players on the team this very second.

I don't get this argument. Side 1 says we don't get players and our recruiting is bad. Side 2 says our conference is why. There's a Side 3 here that says...uhh...we're a Top 10 team this year. Something is going right with the players we are bringing in.

I definitely agree to a point. We have a very good team. Not great. Earlier in the year I thought if we played eggz again, we would likely lose. Now I have a much better feeling.

That said, games are much different in March and if we break through there, it will be huge for us.

The suburban schools and the Gcl -we never did get those kids but the Cincinnati Public Schools mostly the one in close proximity to U.C.- we always had a chance for. Are any of those schools producing any talented players anymore?

I really love this recruiting talk. Keep it up guys.
