Congratulations to Sean who was selected to the all-rookie team!

From Andy Katz's article today on the last leg of Championship Week:

Big East
New York
1. Marquette has the most to prove of any Big East team this week. The Golden Eagles did win at Connecticut, but couldn't beat Cincinnati at home and were barely competitive at Seton Hall. Marquette needs to beat Providence in the first round Tuesday. At that point, beating West Virginia in the second round would probably be just icing on the cake.

2. Who had Cincinnati (7) with a higher seed than Connecticut (9) and Villanova (10)? The Bearcats have had quite a turnaround this season -- not just from one year to the next but also from one point in the Big East season to the end.

3. Connecticut has one of the more difficult paths to the Big East title. After playing DePaul in the first round, the Huskies would have to beat Georgetown and then Pitt before likely facing St. John's or Syracuse. That's all before a final against possibly Notre Dame or Louisville.

4. The game that may draw the most intrigue is a possible quarterfinal matchup between St. John's and Syracuse at MSG. Syracuse rocked St. John's the first time the two teams played. Whoever wins this game would get a solid seed bump in the NCAAs.

5. Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said he challenged his team to make it to Saturday's final, since they've never played in the Big East championship game. Do that and the Irish could join Pitt as a No. 1 seed in the NCAAs.

ESPN's Dana O'Neil previews the Championship:

No. 7 Cincinnati

On Broadway: Thanks to Mick Cronin's tough love, Yancy Gates "Ain't Misbehavin'" and the Bearcats are winning.

Why to watch: The Bearcats played their way into the NCAA field with a strong finish, winning five of their last six. They enter the Big East with their best seed (seventh) since joining the league six years ago.

Who to watch: Gates. Rather than snub his nose at Cronin's discipline, Gates took it to heart and became a better player. He's averaging 14 points and 8.2 rebounds during the Bearcats' strong finish.

What's at stake: The Bearcats haven't had a lot of luck in New York. Last season marked the first time Cincinnati won a Big East tournament game (the Bearcats actually won two) since joining the league. For a team establishing itself late, this is about better NCAA seeding and confidence.

Prediction: The Bearcats get Corey-ed in the quarters by a Villanova team that suddenly discovers it actually has talent.

I guess the 'Cats will just have to continue to prove the doubters wrong.

Another look at the Championship from Kieran Darcy of ESPNNewYork:

Cincinnati (24-7, 11-7): The Bearcats opened the season 15-0, but against a pretty weak nonconference schedule. Mick Cronin's club did finish strong, winning five of its last six games. But of the four teams that received double byes, the only one Cincinnati owns a win over is Louisville -- so it's hard to see the Bearcats potentially beating three of them in three days to take the Big East crown. Key stat: Cincinnati is allowing opponents to score just 58.2 points per game -- that's fifth-best in the country. The Bearcats score 69.0 points per game, led by junior forward Yancy Gates (11.3 ppg) and junior guard Dion Dixon (11.2).

As has been the case all year- national pundits still look at this team and it's as if they accept what they've seen so far but don't expect it to continue. The argument about the OOC schedule is still brought up- rather than the way this team is actually playing. Which leads one to believe all that means is there are a lot of media members who didn't think this team would sniff 20 wins this year, led alone 24 and aren't about to stand up and admit they were dead wrong.

Jon Rothstein of CBS should be all of ours new favorite person folks- if you watched the CBS preview of the Big East Championship here were his comments when asked about teams with the single bye who could make a run to the Championship game:

"I like Cincinnati, because of what they've shown the last five out of their six games, winning and winning in convincing form. And you know there might not be a team in the history of college basketball that has gone 24-7, gone 11-7 in the Big East, that has gotten less publicity than Cincinnati. Right now, it's not an oversight- it's an insult."

HALLELUJAH!!!

AMEN Brother!!!

UCONN takes care of DePaul and Rutgers upends Seton hall in OT in the first session of the 2011 Championship.

UCONN gets Georgetown tomorrow while Rutgers will take on St. Johns.

We must crush them. I think we will wear them down considering they will be a little spent after tonight. Pressuring them will be huge because they do have weak guard play. Lets get at em early and keep our foot on em!
