Seems the landscape of College Athletics is changing. The attempt to Unionize by Northwestern,The Ed O'Bannion case, transfers in large numbers,Big five conferences. Everyone is looking to cash in.

JUST IN: Forward Bill Edwards of Middletown, whose basketball career at Miami University was cut short by injuries, will seek a sixth year of eligibility at another school.

This spring has been a bust so far. Go in with 2 scholarships and on May 18 we have added a juco guard that we beat San Francisco for and an old player who had be kicked off the team. Then we lose a 6'9" soph. Very anxious to see what happens here. Now that Stewart is off the table, I bet we will move quickly. No way the staff doesn't have some useful back up options ready, whether they are 5th year, juco or relatively unknown.

Who you beat out for a player means as much as the stars next to their name...nothing.

Ok fair enough. But for all the names that have come up on his board, I'm a little underwhelmed. Still a very strong class overall though.

Agreed. When there's an obvious need for an upgrade in talent it's hard to get too excited about JUCO roster filler. Hopefully they prove me wrong, but I'm guessing two years from now we'll be saying the same thing yet again... we need better talent.

I honestly feel this will be one of our more talented teams this year. We will definitely lack experience. Johnson, caupain definitely have good bball talent. Moore and Clark are coming in with good low post and mid range talent. Deberry seems to have more offensive talent than we've had since Gates. Jackson was super athletic but lacked offensive talent. We still have shaq who has probably the most talent on the team we are just waiting for him to blossom. Cobb can shoot from deep which was always lacking from our teams outside of SK. All in all the talent is deep the experience and defense will be the biggest issues this season.

Well said!

I have hard time believing this is one of the most talented teams when we don't even have a proven scorer on the roster. I think we have a lot of potential and some more depth in the post, but there are too many questions and inexperience for me too say it's one of the most talented teams in the Cronin era. That's not to say I'm not excited about the future and the new players coming in. I just think about all of the talented players that have recently come through like kilpatrick, cash, dion, lance, and yancy. It's just weird not having any real proven talents returning. Overall I like what I've seen from Cronins recruiting. Seems he's trying to fill in a lot of holes they've been struggling with, like low post scorers and outside shooting. We'll just have to see how much talent they really have late this fall.

Not sure I'd call it a bust but I am very disappointed as well. Two juco's who both had been kicked off their team at one point in time. I figured recruiting would be on the upswing.

I would take either Gates or Jackson back in a heartbeat. Jackson had 11.1 pts in 28 minutes with a 53% FG avg while Gates sr year he had 12.2 in 32 minutes with a 47% FG avg. If you can score double digits at 53% in D1 you have some offensive talent...I don't care how the ball goes in the bucket.

My point is that Deberry from everything we have been told is capable of doing this. And he is has better size than Jackson and he seems to stick to his inside low post role like Gates didn't do. I have no doubt gates and jackson better its just they are not here anymore and we are projecting Deberry's offensive TALENT level for the next 2 years. My whole point is the offensive talent will be spread out among 8-10 players on this team rather than 3 players making it a lot harder to defend this team.

Against Harvard, we had better players they had a better offensive team that made us have to worry about every position.

Potential and depth seem to be the best descriptors of the Cat's roster so far. We're counting on players that will have either expanded roles or players new to the program. I'm excited about having more options in the low post. Last season if JJ got in foul trouble they didn't have a comparable substitute - no shot a Big Dave who gave everything he had.

I'm really excited about TC and KJ's progress, seeing if Morman's defense is as good as we've hear it could be, DeBerry & Strickland patrolling the paint and finishing near the rim, Moore being able to step out with more range as 5, Clark playing an undersized aggressive 4, Cobb with the ability to stretch defenses as a shooter, Ellis with a similar build to JL but with more experience, and seeing if Shaq can take that next step.

This team will have ups and downs as the come together but I think will truly get better as the season goes on. It would have been great to get all those big time transfers and 4 & 5 star recruits, but I appreciate the guys that said I want to be a Bearcat. My guess is that the team will be greater than sum of it's parts.
