2014 Spring Recruiting

When you over recruit at positions the odd man out looks to transfer. We've lost 3 transfers over past 2yrs.

If you are the odd man out then either you werent good enough in the first place or the team is that good that a quality player cant get on the floor. If you arent good enough then I want you to transfer. If we are so good that you dont see the floor its still a win for the program. Winning is above anything else. It helps bring in money, recognition, and even better recruits. You always improve the current team if you can. It's why we took JLaw even though we didnt have any scholarships left. Kelvin transferred and we had a new 5 star forward.

That 5* didn't play over an juco transfer how did that work?

Completely missed the point. Again. You got him on the team. He was an extremely projectable stretch 4. Would it have been smart to tell him no sorry we dont have any scholarships and if we did we wouldnt want Kelvin to feel bad. Absolutely not. Improve the team whenever possible.

When ever I watched Butler play (WITH THEIR GREAT COACH) they played as a team. We all think by now Johnson and Caupin are special, it is only a thought, if they both red shirt how much better they would be. If we played the 1-2-3 with Shaq, Sanders, Martin, Cobb, Morman and Gyun . TWO years later we have Johnson, Caupin , Morman , Cobb, Shaq and who ever else we sign. All players mention are not one and done will only make them better. Only a thought.

Who is Martin?

Not a very wise thought. Ridiculous to think KJ and TC would BOTH be redshirted. No way to predict who/IF anyone will get a redshirt. Perhaps if in early practice Mick sees someone is not ready or falling behind, then it will happen. Asia now I dont think Mick is planning on sitting anybody, but kn this board everybody but Deberry has been suggested.

It was a trio with Morman, unless you redshirt Caupain and Johnson (which will never happen) If there was not a strong group of guards in 2015 would not be a bad idea for the future

And that is what I said, but it would be a pretty good team one year later with these guys maturing as a team. Always interesting to look at every angel if for some reason one year of recruiting does not work out for what ever reason.

I'm with you on the redshirting I look at it as a good thing for kids to mature and get better without wasting a year of play when they weren't going to play but 2 mins a game anyway.
The only players I see that can redshirt this year is KJ, Moore. Your not going to redshirt a senior (Guyn, Sanders) or a juco (Ellis, Deberry, Cobb) and (Morman, Strickland, Thomas) already have redshirted also Caupain def isn't going to if he played the most pg minutes last year. And that leaves Clark which I think will make an impact this year but def won't start and should not redshirt. Just my opinion.

You really see KJ as a redshirt? He might start at SG and battle to lead the team in scoring. And you can see him soph year, after playing as a frosh as the only backup behind a 1st team AA, sitting on the bench for the entire season even if healthy? C'mon dude. Stop saying that.

Im not counting anything out until the first month of the season. Things happen

I also know we have talked about this ad nauseam, but Mick wants 5 big guys. He didnt get a 6th this spring, bc he said 5 was fine. He isnt going to redshirt Moore and cut himself down to 4. Only injury would do that. We're getting a little redshirt happy here...

If KJ is healthy, there is a 0.0000000000% chance he will redshirt.

You dont know that. There isnt some crystal ball you or anyone looks into to know what is on Micks mind. If Mason signs here, anything can happen. If Mason or Cobb and Morman come in and had better offseasons than KJ, who knows what Mick does. Im not saying anyone is or isnt going to get redshirted, what i am saying is anything can happen and Ill wait until the first month of the season to wait and see.

You dont need a crystal ball to see that KJ is not redshirtting as a sophomore if he is healthy. Just logic. KJ will not redshirt if healthy. 0%. Not even a debate.

I'm just not that high on KJ never have been I def think he's 2nd string right now behind Cobb and if we get Mason the KJ goes to third string. Maybe when he's a jr or sr but he isn't going to be in top 3 in scoring this year.

Just remember that Cronin regrets not redshirting Jaquon when he was a Sophomore. If he sees that minutes will be hard to come by he won't hesitate to suggest it...

What did people see last year to suggest that this year will be a struggle for minutes for Johnson? He would get more minutes this year even if SK was coming back, and he was over 10 mpg when it was all said and done last year. He started 0-11 on 3s his first 6 games then shot 41% from 3 his last 27 games. He was only behind SK and JJ in points per minute on the season.

Mick spent the whole year last year talking about wishing KJ got more minutes. That was with SK. And now a year later as a soph with SK gone, some of you are saying Mick's convo with Johnson will be about sitting out even though healthy bc he is possibly 3rd string and there are no minutes?

If you look at his minutes per game after 1/1/14-20 games, 7 of those games he was in double digits in minutes after averaging double figure minutes in almost every game until then. 5 of those 7 games are against Rutgers (2X) and UCF (3X). Once the meat of our schedule hit and we were playing top division opponents, his minutes dropped big time.
