Help Support BearcatTalk:

I have been away from this board for a long time but wanted to share my opinion on the Mick topic. I have not been quiet about my support for Mick, my gratitude for resurrecting the program, and the results he has gotten in conjunction with the resources given. I wont go back into that. I agree with many on here that, to me, the most frustrating thing about Micks tenure has been his inability to recruit the type of players that can make a run in March. I think Mick is an exceptional basketball coach but his little engine that could persona is tired and stale. It's time to step up and be the big boy again. The program is back on solid footing (5 straight NCAAs), has sent 2 players to the NBA and countless others to pro ball in Europe, new locker rooms and arena are on the way, and generally a fan base that shows support. I wish they could find a way to get him a plane. Nevertheless if you and your staff cant sell that to some top rated guys then we need a new coach or a new staff. (HIRE KENYON!). Next year for me is the put up or shut up year for Cronin. He should have a starting 5 (Washington, Clark, Evans, Cumberland, Caupain) where 4 of the 5 were top 100 recruits coming out of high school. The only one who was not in a top 100 list was Caupain and he will be a senior and might get some votes for conference player of the year. If Mick cant win and win big in this league with that team then I will be ready to move on. I too am sick of 3 star projects and juco diamond in the roughs. No more losing to f#$%ing Xavier. No more bubble conversation. No more little man syndrome. Step the F up and produce an elite result. I think the fan base is grateful for what he has done but at some point the status quo can no longer be acceptable when these are the results. I think the new arena will have an impact on recruiting but I just dont know how much. I'll be cheering my ass off as I always have. However the clock is officially ticking for me when it comes to Mick. The rest of this season and next are about all my patience has left.

Anytime someone asks what I don't like about Mick, I'm going to quote this post. Perfect post.

You have great insight to what Mick says. You must be close to the program.

Not really sure what to think of your response. I'm referencing an article written by Paul Daughery from the Enquirer with direct quotes. Unless he made up the quotes I'm assuming it's pretty reliable.

"The point is that it's not the fact his players aren't listening to what he's telling them, it's the fact that he's holding them back and telling them to play a slower pace." These are your words. How do you know that Mick is telling them to slow down?

Probably because he said the article referenced a quote from Troy indicating that he would love to run but it's up to Mick. So, it sounds as though he isn't running because Mick is not allowing it.

Read the article

I think the point I made is pretty clear. Not sure how else to explain it to you.

My guess is there are certain times Mick would like to go faster and certain times slower based on the situation. Caupain is saying the coach will let us know.

If that is not the case and Mick is telling the press one thing and the players another in practice...I would be shocked

Dan Hoard has said on the radio that Cronin will be yelling "Go! Go! Go!" and sometimes the players don't do it. I'm assuming that means Caupain bc Cobb always likes to zoom up the court.

Not being a smart a$$ but I honestly think the players have to be tuning him out a little bit during the game. He's yelling at them literally the entire game and half the time they probably don't even hear him.

I feel the same way.

Im still on board with coach but that's the thing with Mick that sometimes bothers me you don't have to constantly yell at your guys, it makes them play tight at times maybe overthink things. We have an experienced team and is later in the season talk to your players calmly reason with them ask them what they are seeing, troy should be having an open talk with mick occasionally telling him what he wants to run from what hes seeing, let the players have some freedom in the huddle because know matter how good of a coach you are sometimes things are just seen differently out there. If someone turns it over they know it was a bad play they didn't try to turn the ball over if its just a first time thing tell him its fine keep his confidence (bad defense and rebounding is where he should yell). Also show some joy when a good play is made tell him that congratulate and stuff smile from time to time, I swear sometimes a guy will make a great play right before a time out and mick doesn't even look at the guy

My impression was there were not going to be red uniforms this season. The UConn game is probably going to be white out. I could be wrong but I think it was something with the first year contract with UA.

That sounds right about the red uniforms.

Ok yea You could be right because we usually go red vs memphis but that was a black out this year, really like when we go red hope they can bring those back next year
