last year we had a 6 man, but im not talking about us. im talking about college ball in general.

college kids can play 30 minutes a game without a problem. you aren't gonna sit your better players just to give others PT. the best player dominate the minutes.

I would never get someone in there just to get them playing time in a big game. Either they offer us something useful or they are a liability. They can offer defense, rebounding, fresh legs, etc. When your tired starters are still better than a fresh bench...then the choice is simple. When your bench is getting better and you want to push pace or press...the choice becomes a little harder. When does fatigue become a liability? When your bench can make more plays because they aren't winded. Offense or defense.

Even if the starters play 30 minutes that leaves 50 minutes open. That's enough to get 8 guys 15 minutes or 9 guys 12 minutes.

he did have 3 dnp's but that was the first week of feb.

last year we went to a 6 man rotation, does nobody remember that? it was rare for a 7th to get 10+. the 6 were getting 25+ every night.

I remember...but we played like a snail. There was enough time to catch a breath. It was a non issue. We walked it up the court and often times spent the next 5 seconds getting set up after crossing half court.

And let's look at the starting 5 vs the bench. Yes, last year we had Cumberland who obviously got the 6th man minutes. After that we had a second year Jenifer playing behind a 4th year Caupain. We had Quadri. We had a first year Brooks and a first year playing Scott. There was a clear line of talent.

Our frosh this year look much better. Tre, Nysier, and Justin are a year older. Nysier is said to be MIP. Trevor can knock down shots. Keith can get to the bucket. Jenifer is getting better. Tre is becoming a very good defender and passer. The drop off isn't as noticeable...we can use these guys a little more.

So now we are questioning our depth? Lol.. watch these kids play and tell me they're not better then previous benchs

its not questioning our depth, its pointing out that the vast majority of teams attempt to get down to a solid 7 man rotation going into march.

I think you are probably right. In March you have to be able to trust every player you put in the game and usually there just aren't that many players you can trust that much. So the rotation gets down to 6-7...maybe 8 at most.

Cronin has to know they will be in the right place, take care of the ball, take smart shots, and not shrink in the moment. I'm not sure if we will be 10 deep in that regard. I hope we can be at least 7 deep if not 8.

Jenifer and Brooks are for sure going to play every game and be rotation guys. Clark can't play 40 minutes, so Scott or Williams will at least have to play there. We likely won't go small like that though. So Scott. And Williams can back up the 2 and 3. I don't see us playing less than 9 in any game.

I don't see why Moore wouldn't at least get a short look in the 1st half of big games to see if he can get a couple 3s down.

Not allowed to question/ talk about anything on here except for how great the team is, according to that guy.

I guess I am mainly talking about significant playing minutes. Last year in March we were seeing 6 guys with 20+ minutes. Then a guy like Brooks or Quadri would get 10...maybe both would get minutes depending on foul trouble. Jenifer and Scott were only getting a couple of minutes. I don't consider a couple of minutes "rotation guys". I just think they were put in for a quick breather and yanked back out asap.

However, we are talking about two first year guys in Brooks and Tre. A guy playing behind a 4 year point guard who would play 38 minutes. And Quadri. There is no doubt the quality on the bench is better AND deeper this year...but they aren't all going to earn Cronin's trust to play on the biggest stage.

With this team I could see 8 or 9 - Jenifer, Brooks, Scott or Williams depending on the matchups. I am even a little iffy on Brooks. A lot of the things he did the other night just looked awkward. Did anyone else notice this? I wonder if Mick would go small and Scott would take some minutes from him.

To clarify I see Jenifer with the most at 20, Scott or Brooks at 20 combined and Williams at 10. Moore could see 5-7 max. At the end of the season I want to see the starters getting 32-35 minutes.

i think brooks and scott get action in different games depending on the other team. they fit into different styles and thats how mick used them last year too.

Brooks is still finding his way. But he's got 5 fouls, he's a willing screener and rebounder, and he busts his ass down the floor. Not bad for a 6'11" college bench guy.

He singlehandedly got Broome to the line the other day just by sprinting out to set a screen. Broome's man was caught off guard and went to lean into the screen but Broome went downhill away from the screen and Brooke's guy yad no shot to guard Broome on the move. It was a really nice play.

The problem is you can't get your starters 32-35 minutes and have the rest of the guys getting the minutes you propose. At the end of the year If Cane gets 32-35...then Justin is getting 5-8.

I guess it's just way too early to figure any of this out. We don't know if Cane will make a big separation from Jenifer. If we play at a fast tempo in March who will get tired and how many minutes can each guy play? Is a tired starter going to be more effective than a quality fresh bench player? Who has started off playing well so far but will hit a wall when we play better competition?

I am curious why you say that? In the sweet 16 year we had 4 guys at 6'4" or under and they probably played most of the game with Gates as the 5th. We could put 3 wings on the floor at 6'5" or taller this year. I would not see any problem with doing that for 5 minutes or so when Gary is out. It would depend on matchups of course...but it certainly doesn't scare me. I think I would almost prefer it over a back up stretch 4 in many instances. Especially if we have Evans and Williams in who are very athletic and have some ups. Even with Cumberland who has a big body could maybe put a body on a forward and not lose much ground.

I think Cronin likes Scott. Great hustle, defense, and passing off the bench. Plus, we could only go small if Brooks was the 5. Washington can't defend the rim. So I guess we could go PG, Cumberland, Evans, Williams, Brooks. I just don't see that lineup alone playing enough to take Scott out of the rotation though.
