Anyone could guard gates. He just stands outside the 3

But that’s the problem. We will need to depend on cane to stay in front of goodin. He will drive him, and we will help and they will kick to gates for a corner 3.

I just hope that we face guard blueitt from the jump like we did in the second half. Macura has been playmaking for them
Since the tourney run and jarron will need to play great defense on him. Having Gary or Kyle guard gates will also be an issue since it will stretch us far out from the basket.

I think I'd put Evans on Mecura. Take him out of the equation. I'm not worried about Bluiett getting a few points.

Completely disagree.

Evans length bothered blueitt to the point he couldn’t catch the ball. Jarron can guard JP, I have faith in that. Just needs play smart defense like he known for. This is a game where I could see us going 4 out with Gary being the only big.

Blueitt can win a game by himself. He alone beat us in the first half. We won in the second half because Evans shut down blueitt. Literally didn’t even get a shot attempt for like 8 minutes.

That said, if X keeps playing this way, we don’t stand much of a chance. Last year they lacked chemistry, this year they are a well oiled machine. Goodin is not shooting and just getting his 4 other starters open. I think his 4 other starters all have a 71% true shooting percentage or higher. We’d matchup well in a neutral game but at Cintas, I might have to change my pick.

Mecura runs miles and miles every game. This is another reason why I don't want Cumberland chasing him around all game. We'll need Cumberland to match Bluiett bucket for bucket and win all of the other matchups imo.

Jarron is never matching blueitt bucket for bucket. TB is one of the most prolific scorers in all of college basketball. Matching him is a terrible philosophy. Wisconsin was tied at half with X because TB struggled. They won by 10 when he dropped 17 second half points.

Letting Trevon blueitt have his buckets in Cintas would be the worst approach. I mean I love our offense this year but until jarron and the offense proves we can score big in a hostile enviorment, the main approach is limiting and frustrating of the best scorers in Xavier history. Like the Evans guarding blueitt approach won us last years shootout. Trying to get creative and match buckets st Cintas is how we get blown the F out and embarrassed.

I think you're taking the matching buckets thing to an extreme. Bluiett could score 27, and if Cumberland scores over 20, I'd take my chances there. And if they put Mecura on Cumberland again, Cumberland will easily score that many. I don't want Mecura going nuts and getting the crowd into a frenzy. He's easily the player that they feed off of the most. Being guarded by Evans and potentially guarding Cumberland sounds like the recipe for a lousy night for him. Broome and Jenifer should win the PG battle. Same with Clark and Scott, and same with Washington and Brooks. By no means do I want Bluiett to go off for 40 again. I just want to try to make him a one-dimensional jumpshooter. I'm not so tied to that idea that I'd never switch to Evans. And I'd probably put Evans on him when Cumberland is out. But I just feel like Mecura is the guy you want to shut down if you want X to struggle.

Blueit scores 40 on us last year. That’s more than a few points. He can win the game by his self. And if you remember the only thing that slowed him down in th 2nd half was Evans not letting him catch the ball.

Wrote my response before reading this. I agree, do people not remember last year when Evans guarding blueit was the main reason we won the game. Don’t understand not wanting to put our beat defender on him after he stop him last year.

I disagree with us not having a chance. Yes if they hit all their shots we won’t have a chance but that’s any team in the country. They were tied with Wisconsin with 4 minutes left. It won’t be easy at Cintas but we have a better team, so there is a chance

I remember last year. Bluiett had 40, we won going away. Like I said, I'm not so tied to the idea that I'd just let Bluiett go nuts again. It's just going to take a lot out of Cumberland to guard Mecura. And if Bluiett is white hot, he's going to get his points anyway. Idk. It's a while away. And I won't grumble no matter how that plays out. I just say maybe pick your spots with Evans on Bluiett so you don't kill Cumberland.

I don’t think he will get his points no matter what. We seen it. I think he struggles with athleticism. Think that’s part of the problem with him in the nba. He doesnt create his own shot that well. He would still get around 12-15 but not 30

I guess it comes down to the difference between Evans and Cumberland defensively on Mecura and Bluiett vs the impact it'd have negatively on Cumberland offensively guarding Mecura, and positively on Mecura being guarded by Cumberland instead of Evans.

No blueitt is not going to get his shots if he is guarded by Evans. I think last year was perfect evidence. He was hot and then cooler way down when we stopped helping off him.

I love jarron but one thing jarron hasn’t shown yet is the ability to score on the road in an enviormrnt like that.

Xavier has 2 great seniors on their team in their home gym. Winning at Wisconsin is a huge task. It’s an nba sized arena filled to brim and getting wins there is tough.

They run plays for blueitt that even great defenders would lose blueitt on. Evans needs to be the guy.

I mean, Xavier is really good and if you don’t think so, I’ll just assume you haven’t watched them. They are playing completely in sync compared to last year where sumner I felt broke the vibe of the team
