2017 General Recruiting

It just sucks knowing Xavier got a top 100 recruit while we beat out SFA for ours. Does any of that matter? Hopefully not. I'm very excited about Moore, but man have things changed. I don't even think we are in the running for a top 100 recruit.

In just watching the videos on the two guys you can see Moore has a better shot than X guy. But the X guy looks to be a little more athletic and handles the ball more. Chad said that the X guy is not 6'6, more like 6'4.

Cintas is currently better than 5/3. The Big East is currently better than the AAC.

But, UC upgrading the arena and maybe joining the Big12, according to some on these boards, won't help recruiting at all.#Logic

Exactly. I don't care what anyone says, playing in the B12 and in a new arena will drastically help recruiting. Reality is, the AAC has a terrible perception. But we just have to keep winning and win more in March. It's something we haven't been able to do. We gotta win in March. Gotta break the Cincinnati curse.

Agreed. We will be good this season, no question. Depth might be an issue. But, if Troy or Evans get that killer instinct to take over games late, like SK, I am willing to bet we win the AAC Tourney and get a Sweet 16 trip.

Every player we recruit from here on out will be part of reopening 5/3 and will likely play in the Big 12. The bump should start now, 2018 class at worst.

Yes. Mick and Staff should be selling the thought of sold out games against KU and Texas and playing on ESPN 12 times a season in a brand new arena. Playing time for big men starting 2017 and definitely 2018.

Yup that's it right there. Assume we are getting in and sell it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but getting in the Big 12 is far from a guarantee, if they only go with 2 teams it sounds more and more like it's BYU and Houston. If they go with 4 UC should be in, but that's not guaranteed.

Fair enough. We'll know for certain soon. Do you think the Big 12 hopes have anything to do with us suddenly recruiting a lot of players from Texas?

I was thinking if we got in the big 12 mick will have to re-evaluate his recruiting area, I doubt will continue to get most of our players from ny/nj. Although not too many aac schools in that area either.

More an after effect of no longer being able to recruit Big East territory as effectively and adjusting to new situation. New York and DC isn't going to be a hot bed for the AAC...

Not to derail the thread, but it's getting closer and closer to a guarantee. AAC commish Aresco says "I’ve been talking to the (athletic directors) and the president of the schools that might leave, and it looks like some of them will", implying multiple AAC schools are heading to the Big 12. No way UC doesn't make the cut.

Yeah I am confident that we are the front runner to join the Big 12.

Naji Marshall announces today at 11:00 AM. I hope he doesn't pick Xavier, looking like he might though.

What a great summer for them..Holy smokes. They aren't done either.

Meanwhile we are trying to find a school president, a conference, and funds to update an arena. This is not fun. Couldn't tell you where our next recruit is going to come from. Not hearing close to anything.

I think Paul Scruggs is visiting Xavier this weekend on his official. Pretty highly ranked. Both Xavier's recent commits are top 100 on 247 but are NR on ESPN I don't get it

Scruggs is a top 30 recruit in the country. We can barely get top 30 recruits in the state of Texas. #DumpMick

I hate having this feeling that X has passed UC in a lot of ways. No reason the staff has to recruit these under the radar kids. With the renovated arena and Big 12 conference on the horizon they could be more involved with top 100 recruits. I really think they need a staff shake up personally (outside of Davis).

We're about to join the Big 12, and everyone's worried about who Xavier's recruiting. Assuming we do in fact get in, this will be program-changing. I'm not saying we're going to start landing all these McDonalds All-Americans, but it'll without a doubt be a great recruiting tool. The gorgeous arena will be a huge lift too. It may take a little bit, since we a) aren't in the Big 12 yet, and b) the arena is two years away, but there's a lot going on to be excited about. Even if you despise Mick, you can't say with a straight face that the two things I mentioned won't have a positive impact on recruiting and the direction of the basketball and football programs.

My point here is, give it a little time. Kids don't want to see renderings. They want to physically walk into a gorgeous arena. They want to turn on ESPN and watch a Kansas @ UC game. We are headed in the right direction. Like everyone else, I am a bit skeptical towards our 2017 recruiting, but overall, things are still very bright. Plenty to be excited about.
