2017 General Recruiting

I've wondered the same thing, or something along those lines at least. My two thoughts are one, Cronin doesn't feel he can land a player unless he's recruited him for years. Two, and this is a bigger issue for me, we don't recruit locally. I mean obviously if duke or Kentucky and probably a Louisville and Michigan state want a guy we're after there's a good chance we lose him. But a lot of times it's some kid from Georgia or Virginia who goes somewhere closer to home or in the local bigger conference. If we recruited more Ohio and Indiana kids theyd be harder for schools like Virginia Tech or Iowa state to lure away. Just my opinion.

Part of me too wonders if somewhere back there, maybe with Kemba walker or Teagues I think it was, Cronin got butt hurt losing a guy he felt he had locked up. Maybe it's subconscious, but he doesn't seem to go after the big name players.

I'm not disagreeing with your general premise, but we do have two " local" kids on the current roster. Yancy also comes to mind, but I agree that it does seem that we work as hard locally as we do, say, Texas or the Northeast.

You guys are kidding right. Mick spends his time recruiting guys he thinks he has a chance to get. Why would he use his resources chasing guys who don't have interest in coming here. Walker and Teague had legitimate interest in coming here. Do you guys really think that he avoids players because he may be disappointed. Handlers reach out to coaches were players are interested in coming and coaches do the same thing. There are many reasons why players attend certain schools. To say Mick doesn't reach out to them for fear of rejection is laughable.

Saw Coach Davis at CVG this morning. Tried to get some info out of him about Epperson and Williams. Got nothing good lol but he said they are working hard on it. LD is such a nice guy.

Does anyone know if there is any recruits coming in for this game on Thursday? Either basketball or football. I know McNeill was suppose to come in but now that he has committed to ISU.

I dont believe anyone is coming in for UH Game, but Keith Williams is supposed to be visitin for Miami OH game.

Would've been nice to get Williams for the Houston game, now that McNeill is lost. This game is a great opportunity to put on a good showing for recruits. Sucks we can't take advantage.

Did what they could after McNeill made his decision. Not a lot you can do on a Thursday night either way. Such is life in recruiting...

I just wish Williams could come to a better game in a better atmosphere, since he's coming anyway. I get that it would've been tough to swing it.

So Williams will be at the Miami game? Win Thursday, and suddenly we have a lot of momentum. Could lead to a near-sellout vs Miami, which would be electric as well. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

@JKim97
Wright State & Cincinnati came last week to watch 2017 @MATTSMustangs guard Taevion Hollingsworth, he tells @Phenom_Hoops.

Seems like we might be out on Epperson based on the number of guards we're recruiting.

Don't think so. We will recruit 1 guard and 1 big. If Williams signs we will not recruit another guard. If he doesn't Hollingsworth is a back up. You want see both at UC.

If we would've landed McNeill, would we have stopped recruiting Williams?

Not necessarily. We've all heard the phrase, "you are never done recruiting." While Williams may not have been the top target, if you can land a player that makes you better, you keep recruiting him.

If we add Williams we'll have Moore, Williams, Broome ,JJ, Evans and Cumberland. Really can not see them adding another.

Really have to believe if we land Williams we will turn our attention to a big man. I agree you never stop recruiting but in this case the priority would change to a big unless someone just fell into their lap.

I was speaking to the hypothetical "If we would have landed McNeil..." I don't disagree with you and that is exactly what I was saying. If we landed McNeil, Williams may not have remained the top target. Doesn't mean they would have stopped recruiting him. If we land Williams now, a guard probably isn't top priority any longer.
