I tend to agree but when you see the top 100 players almost exclusively going to Power 5 + Big east Schools...it seems it has an impact currently. Not that it is an excuse, but it is a hurdle.

Definitely a hurdle. But it can be done. That Joe Cremo guy has Gonzaga in his Final 5. Kid is from Albany and he'd entertain going to Spokane to play in the WCC.

I think we have 2 things that stop kids in their tracks...
-Our coach has a reputation for being a "Stifler". From the mouth of a Baltimore HS kid. That's what he knew about Cronin. I have no idea what that means, but it doesn't sound good.
-We are known as a rockfight team that prefers to play games in the 50s. Fair or unfair. If I knew UC was recruiting a kid I was recruiting, it doesn't seem like it'd be hard to make it sound like a miserable experience. Again, fair or unfair. I mean, I've been a UC fan my whole life and if I had a son, I wouldn't even entertain the idea of sending him to UC the way things are now. And that's not bc of conference. It's bc the coach is a screamer and defers to a very outdated style of play.

Like, why is our football outrecruiting our basketball? Talk about conference affiliation being a big deal. Our football recruits have 0 chance to play for a national title. And they are coming into a program that the former coach did his best to destroy. We have won 3 AAC games in the last 2 years. And yet...Fickell isn't out there making every excuse under the sun. Instead he's brought a jolt of energy into the program and made it cool to go to UC.

Obviously local talent plays a big role. But Cronin has never made it much of a priority to recruit in Ohio anyway. We have had like 3 Ohio kids in 12 years. And even if he tried, the good recruits would go somewhere else. Look at Gaffney. That kind of thing doesn't seem to be happening to Fickell. And he's in a MUCH tougher spot. And he's getting paid less.

Are we not being in an NBA players brother? I know he's not super high recruit, but come on. It's not like we got nobody

Last I checked, 42 players in the Top 200 were either uncommitted or going to a non "P6" school. We got 1 of those 42 players. Are we not the best program out of all those schools? Maybe Gonzaga bc of their more recent success? But that's about it. And that doesn't include all the transfers that are out there either. We didn't make the final list of schools for any of them.

It's not good enough.

steve Nash has a little bro who wants to come here, 5'8" combo guard with a 13" vert and 6.4 40 yd dash. Ranked 3500 for class of 22 but come on, his bro is a an all time great! It's not like he's a nobody!

I completely agree... I'm not talking and wanting 5🌟 and blue chippers all day ( although it wouldn't hurt..lol) but with CATS history and there recent success there is a shit ton of lower echelon schools out recruiting them. The conference thing is huge but they should be able to recruit the best of the lower tier players and they dont... and there's alot of local talent it seems like they don't even try to go after... I get the long and athletic guys for the D but they need a.few smarter more sound players... what good is having all this athleticism and no-one drives and dunks or lays it in... id have a completely different view if.they didn't chuck 3's all day with players who can't hit them consistently

We do need better recruits, more of them. But we are getting more than just diamonds in the rough. Even you jake, have said there aren't that big of a difference in between 75th ranked and 150th ranked guys. We can live in that range, and I'd like to see us get a top 50 guy every other year.

I'd have no issue living in that range. We only have 3 Top 250 players in the last 2 classes though and no Top 100 players. I'd expect a borderline Top 100 guy every year and I'd expect the back end guys to be more sought after and well within the Top 300. There's a drop off at some point.

Conference doesn't help but the style of play hurts Mick's recruiting more than anything. I like Mick and really, really, want him to succeed here but I honestly can't imagine why anyone would want to play in his system.

EXACTLY... and why on one of CATS recruiting sites have like 6 recruits tj at are so solid they don't have any stars. And why all of a sudden when Bazely announced he's going to D league... he's a potential target now..lol... some here like how Mick plays recruiting tight and keeps it on the low....hell if I'm trying to sell something (which he is ) why wouldn't you want your name put there as much as possible... I've said many of times ( maybe once )... they don't have to be blue chippers but they should be able to do alot better.or at least be in the finals of recruits.. I'm tired of the CATS not even making final 5 of low end kids..

We had a Twitter poll asking how far UC would go in the tournament. 1% of people said we would lose in the 1st or 2nd round. So for 99% of us, we fell short of expectations. I don't think some of you realize how much of a minority you are in. People are pissed off. And they should be. Based on the season end, our spring recruiting, and what our team looks like next year, can anyone tell me why they expect this to be a unicorns and rainbows and butterflies off-season?

How did we use the 2 seed to win games and recruit?

We didn't. So it's not relevant.

You need to step back from the ledge man. Things didn't go the way we wanted this year. UVA was the first team in history to lose to a 16 seed. Shit happens. Every team except Villanova and probably Loyola were ultimately disappointed by the end result to this season. It is okay to be upset, but you are attacking every single post someone makes that is at all optimistic or disagrees with your doom and gloom attitude.

Take a break. Its 2 weeks after the season and Football doesn't start up until August. Get outside and smell the roses a little bit.

There's no time to smell the roses!

You are right though. And don't worry, once spring recruiting winds down, I'll be occupied by the upcoming college football season and won't waste nearly as much time on here complaining.
