How many "high p5" programs are there? Maybe 40? Even if each one has 5 roster spots to fill, that's 200 players. Give them 100 of the top high school players and we're down to 100 roster spots available (being pretty generous I think). If there really are 1,000 players in the portal, fewer than 10% will go to a high major program, and probably fewer than 5% will play starter minutes.

Brannen has a big opportunity to fix what just happened. Plenty of pieces out there.

I think tari will be able to. I think the other guys will find themselves in a similar or worse pt situation unless they go to a lower league school like ovc horizon etc...

Don’t get me wrong, I think they can play for high level schools but won’t be an instant starter. They will do what they were doing here or worse pt wise.

I think some of them could go to a "low" p5 school that can tolerate a rebuild, like Penn St, St Johns, Wake Forest, Ole Miss, Kansas St, Utah, etc. Even Tari might end up somewhere like that. He's talented enough to play for a high major, but those schools can easily pick up someone just as good as him out of high school.

That’s what I think is strange and want to know the bigger story. These guys are basically giving up being starters and stars for cincy for the unknown and potential role player on other teams. I’m not dogging Mikey but does anyone really believe we will hear about him again? Not that he won’t be good but are we gonna see him lighting it up for another team on espn or something?

Just strange to give up the work they already put in here. But more power to them if they think it’s best.

Logan Johnson is probably a good comp for a guy like Saunders. Showed great potential here despite not putting up great numbers. He wen't to St Marys and got a starting role in year 3, and had a good season earning 2nd team all conference. But they didn't make the NCAA tournament and he probably isn't well known nationally. I'd guess he's happy though.

Who made the best decisions at 19/20 years old? Especially if they were emotional decisions? Very few of us. We often chase the me/now at that age.

I think they could have been stars here. They can still develop that at other places, but finding the right spot can be difficult.

Legend did.

I get that the effort now is to spin the narrative to a bunch of guys who think the "grass is greener". That Brannen is just unfortunate that players are snowflakes and not willing to stick to it through tough times. That seems to be the narrative UC and Brannen are trying to put out.

It's true that leaving for most of these players doesn't make sense if you look at it from a playing time and level of play perspective. Saunders, Mason, Gabe, Harvey and Diarra are all probably playing at either a similar or lower level. Probably getting similar or fewer minutes then they'd get by staying.

That makes me believe the players narrative even more. That Brannen is an *******, that they hate playing for him. They don't care that they will play at a lower level or reduced minutes, they care that they won't be playing for Brannen. Saunders, Harvey and Eason have thanked the fans and city of Cincinnati, none of them have said a work of thanks to the coaching staff. Saunders unofficially said he is leaving because of the coaching staff. Diarra thanked the coaching staff, but is also rumored to have thought Brannen is a jerk.

And they aren't the only ones. Cumberland has made it clear he thinks Brannen should not be coaching here, Rap left campus and the country without a word, Sorolla also left mid-season. Those were veteran players, who bailed even faster than our freshmen. Maybe because they knew what good college coaching looked like.

Brannen needs to apologize publicly and promise to change. Also to fire the coach who mistakenly sent the text trashing Harvey meant for a recruit. Not just for the mistake, but also for the content of the text - which should never have been written in the first place. He needs to apologize for his wife liking twitter posts bashing Harvey and Saunders for leaving and get her to delete her account.

In my opinion it is too late. But if Brannen is going to stay here, he needs to own up to his mistakes and show he is changing in order to even have a chance at getting quality recruits.

Shocker. I know you keep trying to spin the narrative as well. It’s probably somewhere in the middle

Looks like we’re gonna get this Bryson Spell kid.

Skilled under the radar stretch 4 that will likely get abused by teams like Houston.

Beggars can’t be choosers though.

This will be a rough year defensively if we don’t add a little athleticism and toughness.

Brannen is staying.

But yea Cunningham’s silence is a fuckboy move. You either come out and defend him or publicly scorn him. Saying nothing does nothing.

Nearly every member of this forum thought Sorolla and Rap sucked and were beneath UC. Plus, they left to pursue professional careers in basketball. But Brannen is to blame for their departure? Blame him for recruiting them in the first place based on their ability to contribute - that is more than fair. But don’t criticize him for not playing them in the manner they saw fit once he realized they were not a good fit for his team.

He's picking us over Elon, GW, and Old Dominion?? Yeah.... not exactly something that has me pumped.

I think that kid could be good. Say what you want about brannen, all deserved, but he usually gets guys that can play out of high school.
