I get that the effort now is to spin the narrative to a bunch of guys who think the "grass is greener". That Brannen is just unfortunate that players are snowflakes and not willing to stick to it through tough times. That seems to be the narrative UC and Brannen are trying to put out.
It's true that leaving for most of these players doesn't make sense if you look at it from a playing time and level of play perspective. Saunders, Mason, Gabe, Harvey and Diarra are all probably playing at either a similar or lower level. Probably getting similar or fewer minutes then they'd get by staying.
That makes me believe the players narrative even more. That Brannen is an *******, that they hate playing for him. They don't care that they will play at a lower level or reduced minutes, they care that they won't be playing for Brannen. Saunders, Harvey and Eason have thanked the fans and city of Cincinnati, none of them have said a work of thanks to the coaching staff. Saunders unofficially said he is leaving because of the coaching staff. Diarra thanked the coaching staff, but is also rumored to have thought Brannen is a jerk.
And they aren't the only ones. Cumberland has made it clear he thinks Brannen should not be coaching here, Rap left campus and the country without a word, Sorolla also left mid-season. Those were veteran players, who bailed even faster than our freshmen. Maybe because they knew what good college coaching looked like.
Brannen needs to apologize publicly and promise to change. Also to fire the coach who mistakenly sent the text trashing Harvey meant for a recruit. Not just for the mistake, but also for the content of the text - which should never have been written in the first place. He needs to apologize for his wife liking twitter posts bashing Harvey and Saunders for leaving and get her to delete her account.
In my opinion it is too late. But if Brannen is going to stay here, he needs to own up to his mistakes and show he is changing in order to even have a chance at getting quality recruits.
