Solid get. I think he'll split time with Koval at the 5. We should be set on the interior if Lakhin stays. With the last scholarship I would take the best senior available, but I wouldn't pass on an underclassman upgrade.

Watching Ody's highlights, he's quick for his size and runs the court very well. Leaping ability looks average, but he uses his quickness to get in rebounding position against slower bigs. On offense he's almost exclusively a screener and back to the basket post scorer. 20 years ago he would have been a prototypical 4, but he can be a great 5 in the modern game. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts over Koval, and I could see them sharing the floor at times since their games are so different. Eventually Ody could be a good 4 if he can learn to shoot or develop a face up game.

Looks like a decent squad. Could be a bubble team if we schedule easy. Not saying I want that, but it does work to get in the conversation. There will be wins in our league.

I think Ody is our most important addition of the offseason yet.

1) He fills our biggest hole in the squad for next season as a versatile, athletic big who can rebound at a very high level and has playing experience in the best league in college basketball.

2) He serves as the first recruitment "win" of the Wes Miller era seeing that he chose UC despite interest from several other top 15 programs.

3) With several years of eligibility remaining, he fortifies the backbone of the team that can help rebuild the program over the coming seasons.

I think this is a pretty good breakdown. I might move a few minutes around but overall it seems pretty close. I would not be a bit surprised to see a serious shake up in those minutes with final recruit(s). The home run(s) is still the goal and we didn't bring in this great staff to stop now.

My guess is that Wes told all the players that he wants to build and NC caliber team and I would like you to play on that team. I am going to get the best players I can so the program and yourself can reach the highest levels in the game. If that excites you...then put your feet in and enjoy the ride.

Now he spends his time bashing Wes Miller, who was actually hired. I don't even read his posts, but i saw his name and your response, so I'm just taking a wild guess.

As usual it's just a lack of patience that get people all worked up. The staff is likely going to take their time to get at least one big time get who is a good fit and I would say a 50-50 chance another spot opens up to add a 2nd big time player. I am talking starter quality guys.

On the wing we don't really have a go to scorer yet. We can sell that pretty easy. And if there is a stud big out there they should not be too concerned about winning a starting spot over what we currently have. Koval IMO would best be served as a backup. Ody can play some 5 and 4 but may not be a starter at either position. Lakhin I doubt will be getting a lot of minutes...so he could bail. Or if we get a go to wing I could potentially see a guard bail. Or maybe we end up using Banks scholly...who knows.

That wing go to scorer is what we need right now. If everyone else stays then I guess we are done. But a late transfer is not out of the question.

Just chill and let it play out. You can't land the studs first or the role players and younger guys may not come on board for the quality depth and development we need. We are still going to land a stud from the portal. There is a good chance another spot will open up somehow for a 2nd high quality player TBD.

At that point we will have what we need to be very competitive and still build for the future. It ain't over...the best is likely still to come.

Patience is key here. Just like the coaching staff, Wes landed a couple of assistants he rebuilt a program with and then went out and landed a big fish recruiter in Chad Dollar. Dollar has decades of recruiting connections and is probably the best recruiter UC has had since Stubblefield.

He is taking the same approach with the roster. Stabilize and then swing for fences.

He brought back Mason and Mikey. Landed Clemson transfer John Newman.
Then UNCG guys(Hensley *4 Star, Koval, and McGinnis)

Then he brings in Ody Oguama who Kansas and Arkansas were reaching out to. This may not be a home run but it feels like an RBI double to me.

After 1 month on the job I give that a 88/100

Personally, I see Lahkin leaving. That would leave 2 schollys and they add another traditional 4 man who can compete with the likes of Houston and Memphis. Then Wes hit a homer with a scoring wing that solidifies us as a tourney level team.

If the bolded paragraph comes true I give Wes and his staff 98/100. Thank god John Cunningham got rid of John Brannen.....

If they need a spot banks already knows the deal. He came to UC with the entire purpose of being a walkon. Him being on scholarship now doesnt mean anything other than he doesnt have to pay to go to school for spring semester or summer classes. Very very slight chance he stays on scholarship, and if they need the spot there is a 0% chance he stays on scholarship

Miller has said multiple times that he is honoring the scholarship to Banks (Brannen gave it to him). Chad and Justin have both said they don't expect Miller to take Banks scholarship back.

Chances are much closer to 100% that Banks stays on scholarship than they are to 0%. He might even get some playing time.

At 6'10 or 6'11 I am not sure what is going to be better in the portal. As long as Vik has recovered from his surgery and gets in the Factory...we should be just fine. He and Koval can shoot so we can play with either of them with Ody on the floor when we need to go big. It also gives us 15 fouls to give at the 5 if we need it.

I am back to being good with our big situation. Let's get that alpha scorer on the perimeter and call it a day!

I'm still not convinced on Lakhin's mobility, he looks pretty slow to me. It's not a sure thing he's coming back, I believe he's going to be making that decision ones he gets back to the states. There aren't going to be many minutes for him next year, so he may leave on that alone. There's also the question of if Miller wants him, Wes seems to want defense first - especially from bigs - and Lakhin may not fit that mold. Plus questions around the injury and recovery. He's a giant question mark even if he does come back.

Hard to argue with most of that.

I'm most interested to see how the minutes get distributed at the guard spots.

Saunders, Madsen, McGinnis and MAW will all be able to make a case for why they should be playing 20+/game.

With the current roster construction I see Madsen backing up Newman at the 3. He seems a little longer than McGinnis and not as quick. It's not his natural position, but I think I'd rather have him than Davenport there. Ideally we bring in a natural 3 (someone like Meikkel Murray).

Maybe if we were a slow paced passive defense team. I can't imagine trying to play pressure defense with Davenport and two players slower than him on the court.
